There is a danger that this race might be finished before people realise that the meeting has started but I think the firm favourite Goodnight Olive will take all the beating in the Filly and Mare Sprint. She has just been a winning machine for the Chad Brown barn and while this is her biggest test, she should win.
This is Golden Pal’s race to win and he will be hard beat but his price is about right. As Paddy is offering a generous extra place here I’ll back Campanelle. Golden Pal’s stable mate is also an excellent sprinter and gets the benefit for trap 4 to unleash her early speed. She’s a double figure price I think we will be nailed on for a place.
I have a strong opinion that Laurel River will absolutely romp home here and is possibly my strongest position of the night. Trained by the great Bob Baffert, she has been excellent all year and sets up perfect for this race. Cyberknife has had a long hard season and is possibly over the top on the back of it and Cody’s Wish for me is not going to be as good at the mile as 7f.
The front end of this market is all European runners but I fancy a Yank to beat our best fillyies. On paper In Italian has a bad draw but she has proper 6f sprinter gate speed and can use that to clear the field and set her own fractions – as she did in her last two races.
She is a very hard horse to pass. The Keeneland straight is long by US standards but it’s not far off Chester where Above The Curve nearly fell off the bend. Nashwa is one of the standout fillies of the year, but she has to get going off the straight and any traffic will make her task far harder to reel in In Italian.

A Clairiere victory would be very personally beneficial and I still think at the current price there is value. Nest, the favourite, has plenty of reasons to oppose. Malathaat, who beat Clairiere at Saratoga, benefited from Clairere’s pre-race antics where she probably shouldn’t have been allowed to run and she can right that wrong here.
How much will Flightline win by – that is the question. I find it hard to see the world’s best horse being beaten. We have distance betting and I think he can win by as far as he did on his last start (19 & ½ lengths).
