12:48 – Aazza

AZZA failed to kick on over hurdles after scoring on her debut under Rules at this venue last season, but as a winning pointer there could be better to come from her over fences. She made an encouraging start over fences when third in a two-mile handicap chase here last month, shaping like she would benefit from a much stiffer test of stamina. She gets that much stiffer test here, stepping up a mile in trip, and it’s worth noting that the form of her latest race has worked out well.

13:23 – Royale Dance

ROYALE DANCE a £65,000 purchase after dead-heating on her only start in an Irish point, shaped with promise when runner-up in a Stratford bumper on her debut under Rules in March. Royale Dance was no match for a promising type who has since won both starts over hurdles, but she proved best of the rest and should know a bit more with that experience under her belt. She is in top hands with Dan Skelton and of obvious interest on her hurdles debut.

13:58 – De Legislator

DE LEGISLATOR won his only start in an Irish point, beating Snake Roll who ran out an impressive winner on his hurdling debut for this yard at Kelso recently. Snake Roll’s 15-length success bodes well for De Legislator’s prospects and he has been found a nice opportunity for his debut under Rules.

14:35 – Captain Quint

CAPTAIN QUINT made a winning start under Rules in a two-mile novice hurdle here last year and he backed up that positive impression when third behind a useful sort in a two-and-three-quarter mile novice hurdle at Newcastle on his only subsequent start last term. Captain Quint, a runner-up on his only start in an Irish point, is bred to be a staying chaser so he is expected to fare well over fences this term. He’ll likely need a stiffer test than this to show his best, but he goes handicapping from a fair-looking mark based on what he showed over hurdles, and he might be up to the task.

Hexham Racecourse, 2011

15:10 –  Brickadank

BRICKADANK was disappointing on his penultimate outing at Market Rasen, but he ran well at the same venue a couple of weeks earlier and he shaped as if back in form when fourth at Carlisle last time. Brickadank, who was disadvantaged by racing from out of the weights, took a strong hold at Carlisle and gives the impression he will benefit from dropping back in trip to two miles here (from two and a half miles).

15:45 –  Fenland Tiger

FENLAND TIGER looked like a stayer in bumpers and in maiden/novice hurdles and he duly improved for the step up in trip to two and a half miles when scoring on his handicap debut at Carlisle a couple of weeks ago. Fenland Tiger impressed with how he went through that race, shaping like a 7 lb rise in the weights shouldn’t be enough to stop him if in similar form, while his strength at the finish suggests this further step up in trip won’t be a problem. He’s a lightly-raced and unexposed six-year-old who remains capable of better.
