12:50 – Long Stay

There should be plenty more to come from LONG STAY in handicaps on the back of a very promising return from a lengthy absence. He has seemingly had his problems, but he is yet to run a bad race and, given time to recover from his run at Perth, he’s a very appealing candidate. Second-season hurdler Grivetana should have plenty more to offer for her top yard and will pose a big threat, while Jack’s A Legend is one to monitor in the betting.

13:20 – Boom Boom

Nicky Henderson is known for starting his better novice hurdlers at this track and he took this race with the smart Dusart a couple years back, so BOOM BOOM may be the way to go. He displayed plenty of ability when placed in a couple of bumpers last season and appeals as just the type that will do even better over hurdles. Lock Out and Hansard look the obvious threats.

13:55 – Huelgoat

HUELGOAT hasn’t looked back since his attentions have been turned to the chasing, winning all three of his starts so far, and he got the job done with the minimum of fuss at Fontwell last time. He faces a tougher task now, but with further improvement on the cards, Paul Nicholls’ charge is fancied to remain unbeaten in this sphere. Whydah Gally should make a better chaser so he’s put forward as the main danger for his in-form stable, with Irish point-winner Git Maker rounding off the shortlist.

14:30 – She’s A Saint

This doesn’t look the deepest race of its type on paper, and SHE’S A SAINT, who won on her only start in points, and could hardly have been more impressive when making a winning start under Rules at Hexham last month. She won by 41 lengths that day and, though she received an enterprising rise, and it wasn’t much of a race, she is still worth viewing very positively at this stage. Carole’s Pass, who won at Clairefontaine when last seen in June, rates the chief threat, although both Sharp Note and newcomer Mrs Grimley can’t be totally discounted, either.

15:05 – Flemcara

FLEMCARA was a two-time winner last season and he ran a cracker when narrowly denied in this race from a 4 lb higher mark on his reappearance 12 months ago. He is now a 10-year-old, but he represents a yard who are going well, and just about gets the vote in an open handicap. Didtheyleaveuoutto shaped well on his return to hurdles in a competitive race at Chepstow last month and he doesn’t look badly treated from the same mark.

15:42 – Java Point

JAVA POINT took well to chasing last season, winning three of his six starts, including on his final start in a novice handicap over further at this track. That was a useful race and he should have even more to offer this season, while the drop back in trip isn’t a concern as it was his speed which brought him out on top last time. There wasn’t much between Le Cameleon and Northern Bound when first and second at Warwick last month and they head the dangers.

16:12 – Poncho

PONCHO has a speedy Flat pedigree, but he showed plenty of ability on his debut in a bumper at Market Rasen in May, clearly staying better than might have been expected. That form sets the standard and he may be worth chancing to build on it, though any market support for Iolaos du Mou, who represents an excellent yard with a good record in this sphere, should be taken seriously.
