A further defeat over hurdles would set the alarm bells ringing but, for now, Listed bumper winner MULLENBEG can be given another chance. Martha Willow could be an interesting recruit to the Gordon team and Shelikesthelights looked nice in winning her only bumper.

13:15 – Scarface

Fascinating Lips won with something to spare on his hurdle debut at Fontwell but he has bumped into a well above-average one in SCARFACE who was an also-ran in the Ballymore at Cheltenham but had previously shown how well he was progressing with a close call against a useful one at Ascot. Hermes Le Gris is likely to be suited by this new trip and is third on the list.

13:45 – Felton Bellevue

Atakan looked a staying type when a close third over hurdles here in January and he could prove an interesting recruit to fences but FELTON BELLEVUE gave an assured display when winning his second chase in February and there should be more to come from him. Irish point winner My Bad Lucy runs over a more suitable trip on his chase debut but his relative lack of action in recent times raises a question.

14:20 – Lord Baddesley

This looks a good opportunity for LORD BADDESLEY (nap) after his highly encouraging return in a strong handicap at Chepstow. Royaume Uni may finish closer to the selection than in last season’s Betfair and pose a challenge, along with Small Bad Bob.

14:55 – Sublime Heights

En Coeur bumped into a red-hot one on his reappearance and he’s always a force to be reckoned with here, but a chance is taken with SUBLIME HEIGHTS. He has yet to click over fences but he’s perched on a potentially good mark should it all come together in first-time cheekpieces. Bolsover Bill can also be thereabouts.

15:30 – Purple King

This mark does not look beyond Caramelised but his Flat win came on firm ground and today’s surface is likely to be slower than when he ran promisingly in better company at Market Rasen in July. PURPLE KING is flexible regarding the going and his Sandown win in March shows that plenty of ability remains since his absence. Coolnaugh Haze can also play a part.
