13:50 – Autumn Return

Ben Pauling won this in 2017 and 2018 and Joe Dadancer is a tempting option on his rules debut, having been clear when falling at the final fence in an Irish maiden point in February. However, preference is for the penalised mare AUTUMN RETURN, who made it 2-2 under rules on last month’s hurdle debut at Market Rasen and can continue to progress now she’s upped in trip. Prairie Wolf and Macavity are other interesting contenders, while the Dan Skelton-trained William Of York is one to watch in the betting after a long absence.

14:25 – Molly Ollys Wishes

Last year’s winner MOLLY OLLYS WISHES struggled on her final two starts last season but a break may have done her good and she’s the one to beat if back to her best. A longer trip is preferable for Martello Sky but this Listed winner is still feared most.

15:00 – Sporting John

Last year’s first Indefatigable and second Proschema (second choice) should again be on the premises and recent outings could give them a fitness edge over their four reappearing rivals. However, SPORTING JOHN was better than ever last season and may still be the one to beat if ready to do himself justice after nearly ten months off.

15:35 – Bravemansgame

A fascinating running featuring two of last season’s top novice chasers, between whom the score is one-all over fences. It will be a great spectacle if Ahoy Senor and BRAVEMANSGAME are both at their best but, as is often the case with the leading form players in the Charlie Hall, this could be a stepping stone to bigger targets later in the season. Having ended last season on a low note, Bravemansgame returns having had wind surgery and is preferred over Gold Cup hopeful Ahoy Senor. Eldorado Allen has a good record when fresh and could be the one to capitalise if the expected market leaders aren’t at the top of their games.

Wetherby Races Novices' Hurdle

16:10 – Dalyotin

Having won three times over fences in France, DALYOTIN scored comfortably at Sedgefield in March on his first British chase start and this 6yo is taken to follow up on his reappearance. Somekindofstar won at Warwick last month on his first run for Charlie Longsdon and could be the chief danger ahead of Mongol Emperor, a point winner who is a possible improver on this chasing debut.

16:45 – Aki Bomaye

The very lightly raced 7yo AKI BOMAYE makes his reappearance having had wind surgery and he was a good second last November in the same circumstances. He earns the vote ahead of the unexposed 6yo Bangers And Cash. Neil Mulholland’s pair Indian Brave and Tango Boy are lightly raced for their age and could also be involved.

17:20 – Findthetime

A few of these could be ahead of the handicapper. Top of the list is FINDTHETIME (NAP), who made it 2-2 in handicaps with a convincing win off 7lb lower over C&D last time out in February. Rafferty’s Return is another unexposed C&D winner and he’s second choice, ahead of the Dan Skelton-trained 4yo Rocky Man. Vintage Fizz arrives on a hat-trick and is also in the equation.
