Hurricane Harvey failed to strike last season but he has tumbled in the weights and starts out this term from a tempting mark. Hurricane Harvey has gone well fresh before – he won on his reappearance two seasons ago – and he makes his return to action with trainer Fergal O’Brien going well.
If The Cap Fits didn’t fully convince as a chaser during his first stint over fences in the 2020/21 campaign, though he still showed smart form so he catches the eye off a BHA mark of just 129 in veterans’ company. If The Cap Fits may not be the force of old, but he produced a useful effort when sixth in the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival on his penultimate start for Harry Fry, so he looks worth siding with on his debut for David Pipe.
Hitman twice finished runner-up in Grade 1s last season, including when posting a high-class effort behind Fakir d’Oudairies in the Melling Chase over this course and distance on his final start of the campaign. Hitman found a bit less than looked likely in the Melling – not for the first time in his career – but he has had another wind operation since then and he may have strengthened up following another summer break.
Peking Rose was a talented type in bumpers – he finished runner-up in the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree – and won in good style at Newbury on his second start over hurdles. He was unable to add to his tally in three subsequent starts, but it’s still relatively early days in his career and it would be little surprise were he to kick on again this term. He’s had a wind operation since last seen and returns with Fergal O’Brien going well.
Mexico, a Catterick bumper winner on his fourth start in that sphere, produced a promising first effort over hurdles when runner-up at Ascot last December. That’s the pick of form on offer here and Mexico also shaped like he would be better off over this longer trip, so he remains with potential to do better over hurdles.
Dual-winning pointer Kinondu Kwetu showed fair form over hurdles, winning on his final start in that sphere at Stratford in April, but he has quickly developed into a much better chaser. Kinondo Kwetu made it four from four over fences when scoring at Uttoxeter recently, impressing with how fluently he moved through the race and winning with a fair bit in hand. An 8 lb rise in the weights should not be enough to stop his winning run.

Bombay Sapphire was a big price on her debut for Ken Budds at Gowran Park in February, but she showed a good attitude to land that bumper by half a length from the Willie Mullins-trained odds-on favourite. She has joined Nicky Henderson and could be a promising recruit.
