14:25 Limerick – The Friday Man (NB)

THE FRIDAY MAN has improved rapidly for Gordon Elliott in recent months and can continue his progression with further success in this 2-mile 5-furlong Listed Novice Hurdle. The son of Kayt Tara has secured four victories from eight-career starts under rules and has also shown versatility on different ground conditions. He returns here following a comfortable success at Navan last month and more recently side stepped a Listed event at Tipperary due to unsuitable ground.

Another Choice was nine-lengths behind our selection at Navan with Matt Smith’s runner returning for another clash against Davy Russell’s mount having had two subsequent runs at Listowel and Cork. Elsewhere, I worry the ground might turn testing and be too much for Ambitious Fellow with Plains Indian looking the biggest danger. However, The Friday Man showed his liking for underfoot conditions at Perth and on pedigree should be able to handle any further rain to strike again.

15:00 Limerick – Queens Brook

This Listed Mares’ Hurdle looks a good opportunity for QUEENS BROOK to return to winning ways having shown so much consistency for connections in recent seasons. The Bective Stud owned mare should have no worries with testing conditions and has some lovely from in the book having finished placed at two Cheltenham Festivals – third in the Champion Bumper of 2020 before finishing runner-up in the Mares’ Hurdle back in March.

The step-up in trip should be a positive for Gordon Elliott’s runner having previously won a point-to-point at Dromahane in the early part of her career. She also holds Heaven Help Us on form from the Festival earlier this year with Paul Hennessy not training a winner since success in the Coral Cup of 2021. Kilbarry Chloe is another on the shortlist and will like the ground, but Jordan Gainford will sit handy and strike late to score on Queens Brook.

15:10 Curragh – Markaz Paname

The battle between Colin Keane and Billy Lee continues at HQ on Sunday with the current champion hoping to secure back-to-back victories in the Listed Testimonial Stakes. Keane guided home Power Under Me to score last year and teams-up with Ger Lyons on MARKAZ PANAME with blinkers used for the first time. The Gladness Stakes winner drops back in trip here which looks a positive considering his effort in the Concorde Stakes earlier this month.

I’m guessing Keane will sit forward and get a lead into the closing stages before using his stamina and the benefit of those blinkers to secure victory. Moss Tucker brings excellent form to the table having finished fifth in the Prix de l’Abbaye in Paris and steps-up in trip under Billy Lee. Ken Condon’s runner will be looking for a much smoother start and might have too much ground to make up from off the pace on Markaz Paname in the closing furlong.

Safer Gambling 2022

15:35 Limerick – Darrens Hope

DARRENS HOPE has a nice profile and gets the vote to win the 2023 Munster National for trainer Robert Murphy and jockey Brian Hayes. The daughter of Oscar has enjoyed plenty of racing this year and has little weight to carry whilst also holding the fitness edge over several main rivals with good experience at the trip and on testing ground. She needed the run-on return at Listowel before finishing second at Galway and those two efforts should give her a good each-way chance here.

She’s likely to sit close to the pace or race from the front and enjoys a featherweight in a race which has seen five of the last six winners carry under 11-stone to victory. Elsewhere, J P McManus is represented by Early Doors, A Wave Of The Sea and Donkey Years with Eric McNamara’s runner looking the most interesting of the three. Ain’t That A Shame will enjoy the testing conditions but it’s a lot to ask from the son of Jeremy on his seasonal return and in such a competitive handicap.

15:45 Curragh – Emily Dickinson (NAP)

This looks a fascinating renewal of the Group 3 Loughbrown Stakes with a punt taking on EMILY DICKINSON now stepping-up in trip for Aidan O’Brien and Seamie Heffernan. The daughter of Dubawi deserves a change of luck having ran some creditable races from off the pace in the Irish Oaks, Lillie Langtry, English St Leger, the Prix de Royallieu and more recently in the Champions Fillies & Mares at Ascot.

The drop down in class and this 2-mile trip could play to her strengths with 3-year-old’s winning four of the last six renewals of this contest. Elsewhere, Baron Samedi also brings strong form to the table but hasn’t raced since April, while the lightly raced Beamish looks a possible improver for Billy Lee. However, Emily Dickinson looks the one and can claim a much deserved second career victory and her first at group level.
