Newbury 13.50 – Grey’s monument

ITV Saturday gets under way here with the Group 3 Horris Hill for juveniles over 7f. An open renewal from the point of view many who can improve. GREY’S MONUMENT really should not be good enough, but I have a feeling experience might be key in what could be quite testing conditions. The Ralph Beckett runner has really come good on his last two starts and bolted up in a nursery at York last time. That was over a mile but this trip is no issue. Conditions are ideal so I will have a few quid on each way.

Cheltenham 14.05 – The Wolf (each-way)

ITV is also at Cheltenham Saturday getting under way with this handicap chase over 3m1f. A hard race to sort out. The Hollow Ginge is checked in now and could easily bolt up. I’m going to chance THE WOLF each-way for Olly Murphy and Adrian Heskin. He was last seen finishing a fair seventh in the Scottish National earlier this year and prior to that had two good seconds at this track and Musselburgh. There is a decent prize in him off this sort of mark.

Newbury 14.25 – Hamish

Another Group 3 here in the St Simon Stakes over 1m4f. HAMISH has to keep giving weight away and in Lone Eagle he faces quite a talented rival. That said, my hope bolted up at Ascot last time and I just feel he will be too classy for Tom Marquand and William Haggas. The second two runs ago to Kyprios was also a fine effort.

Cheltenham 14.40 – Pied Piper

A conditions hurdle for 4yo over an extended 2m. Old rivals PIED PIPER and Knight Salute go at it again here but I suspect Pied Piper will reverse Aintree form with the Milton Harris challenger. Pied Piper should have won in Liverpool but hit the front too soon under Davy Russell. I’m sure Jack Kennedy will wait much longer here.

Doncaster 15.00 – Aesop’s Fables

ITV also go to Doncaster Saturday for this Listed Doncaster Stakes for two-year-olds over 6f. On paper AESOP’S FABLES should be an absolute good thing here for Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien. With a rating of 111 the son of No Nay Never is miles clear on ratings and his decent enough fourth in the Dewhurst strongly suggested this trip would be far more suitable than the seven at Newmarket.

Cheltenham 15.15 – Editeur Du Gite

A handicap chase over 2m. EDITEUR DU GITE is as high in the handicap as he wants to go for Gary Moore and this won’t be easy under 12st. However, he brings plenty of class to the table and high speed jumping will be a big asset here against some horses who have been mopping up much lower graded events. I’ll take a chance he can do it.

Doncaster 15.35 – Holloway Boy

For many the big one of the day in the Group 1 Vertem Futurity for juveniles and possible future Classic hopes over 1m. Auguste Rodin will probably win for Aidan O’Brien but for the bet I’m keeping the faith with HOLLOWAY BOY and Karl Burke and Danny Tudhope. The Royal Ascot winner continues not to get the rub of the green in major events and again never got a clear run last time in the Autumn Stakes. I still think he has more to show us and will back him eachway.

Cheltenham 15.50 – Streets on Doyen

A Pertemps Handicap Hurdle Qualifier over 3m. I’ll take one at a price here in STREETS OF DOYEN for Darragh O’Keeffe and Thomas Gibney. A mark of 136 here is not impossible to work with for a horse who has been up to 142 in his time. Stamina is no issue and he ran a fair race when last seen at Gowran Park. Eachway chance.

Doncaster 16.10 – Whenthedealisdone

A handicap over 5f. WHENTHEDEALINSDONE is down 2lb here for Roger Teal and Danny Tudhope and has proper eachway chances. Ground and trip are perfect and the draw in nine looks fine to sit behind a strong gallop. He disappointed in the Portland here but sweated up that day and lost a shoe. I think he’s much better than that.
