13:15 – Jersey Wonder

Only three runners, but they all have a chance, and the percentage call is to side with JERSEY WONDER who moves back up in trip. He has been on the go since May, winning over further than this at Fontwell earlier in the year, and she ran respectably over two and a half miles at Hexham last time. He is just 1 lb higher than his last winning mark and his amateur rider takes off 7 lb. Presenting Yeats is going through a good spell and may emerge at the chief threat under a penalty.

13:45 – Yaazaain

YAAZAAIN opened his account under Rules in a handicap chase at Huntingdon in May but was unable to build on that victory on his next few starts. He has shown a bit more in selling handicaps over hurdles more recently, though, only beaten a head over a similar trip to this at Newton Abbot last month, and a reproduction of that effort may suffice in an open event. Mi Laddo continues to fall in the weights but it would be no surprise if he bounced back with the visor refitted.

14:15 – Mr Mafia

MR MAFIA isn’t getting any younger – now a 13-year-old – but he is holding his form well and may well be the answer in a very tight handicap. Martin Keighley’s charge retains plenty of enthusiasm and his stamina reserves could prove an asset round here in what promises to be a strongly-run race, despite the small field. Vision des Flos and Red Happy both arrive here in good form and are greatly respected, too.

14:45 – Lallygag

With the standard setter now a non-runner, this isn’t by any means a deep race and looks an excellent opportunity for LALLYGAG to make a winning start over hurdles. He is a brother to the same connections’ very smart Lalor and he showed plenty of ability in bumpers last season, opening his account at Hereford in good style. He will take plenty of stopping with a clear round. With Vanderbilt’s limitations well and truly exposed, it is Dannystory who may prove the sternest opposition.

15:15 – Pens Man

PENS MAN  built on his reappearance to record a third win over fences at Southwell in July and he didn’t get far when brought down at the first at Bangor 20 days ago after 11 weeks off. That was no fault on his own, however, and it is encouraging he is turned out relatively quickly, so he remains a horse to be positive about in this sphere. Forget You Not got back on track under this rider when last seen in July so he heads up the opposition.

15:45 – Evron

EVRON remains a maiden under Rules but he had won in points before making his debut for Matt Sheppard at Bangor last month and he showed something to work on. He was racing from much higher marks when with Warren Greatrex a few years ago and he may be worth chancing to build on his recent promise in what doesn’t look the strongest race. If Majestic Merlin is primed for his reappearance then he could be the one to give the selection most to think about.

16:20 – Polemon

Leading Flat yards may dominate this concluding bumper, with Archie Watson’s POLEMON getting a narrow vote before any market clues. By Frankel and a half-brother to very smart Flat winner Weekender, he makes plenty of appeal on paper and the same connections tasted success in bumpers last season. Ralph Beckett won this race 12 months ago and Twentyfirst Lancer is another to take seriously.
