Horse Racing tips: Mick Fitzgerald’s Champions Day at Ascot best bets

Mick is raring to go and fancies Baaeed at 4pm to make it a Saturday to remember on ITV Racing.

13:25 – Trueshan

Trueshan has not had his favoured ground all season so far but, thankfully for connections, the rain is arriving on Friday and that should inconvenience the others and make it more in the favour of our lad. It didn’t go to plan for him at Doncaster but having the St Leger winner Eldar Eldarov in here adds some real spice.

14:00 – Kinross

Kinross has won his last three races, two Group 2s in the UK, and a Group 1 in France. He stays really well and has already beaten my original selection Creative Force who won this last year. You can’t help but feel this son of Kingman is just a winning machine and it may pay to stick with him as he’s in red-hot form and will have ground he really likes.

14:40 – Sweet Lady (each-way)

Francis-Henri Graffard is a good young trainer in France who is not afraid to travel and have a go. This daughter of Lope de Vega loves the ground and comes into this on the back of a Group 1 win at Longchamp last month. I think Sweet Lady is a very solid each-way bet in a race with question marks about some of the horses at the front of the market. Emily Upjohn looked so good earlier in the season but has to bounce back and has a hood on here.

15:20 – The Revenant

Modern Games was the winner of the French Guineas and also last time out at Woodbine in Canada in a Group 1. He has form on soft ground and that’s definitely appealing. Inspiral is a very good filly and this track should be right up her street but I feel The Revenant, who has won here before, will love the conditions. He is the one for me and a very good value bet. He didn’t get beat very far last year by Baaeed and Palace Pier, both of which were champions at this trip.

16:00 – Baaeed

It is Champions day and Baaeed is a proper champion. I know I’m a bit of a sentimental fool, but at the same time I can’t help but want to celebrate a horse who has run 10 times and has a 100% record. It would be a fantastic way to end his career and I see no reason why he won’t make it 11 from 11. He is a very good horse and pretty straightforward to ride, handles all types of ground, and knows how to get the job done.

16:40 – Bashkirova

William Haggas would love to be champion trainer and I think this daughter of pivotal can help him. Bashkirova was a winner of the Princess Elizabeth at Epsom, she has form on soft ground, and I don’t think is badly handicapped for a race like this either.
