13:35 – Wotever Next
WOTEVER NEXT shaped better than the distance beaten would suggest when finishing in mid-division at Pontefract last week, paying the price for doing too much too soon in a well-run race. Wotever Next had shaped with promise the time before when fourth on her handicap debut at Ayr, while the form of her debut success at Catterick also suggests she could be better than a handicap mark of 70. The booking of Becky Smith is a positive in this race for amateur riders.

14:10 – Magna Moralia
This looks like a good opportunity for MAGNA MORALIA based on the form he has shown in handicaps this season. Magna Moralia wasn’t at his best when only sixth at Redcar last time, but he had put in a creditable effort when third at Catterick the time before. He should prove difficult to beat in this selling contest if running to a similar level here.
14:40 – Monhammer
MONHAMMER has largely performed well in recent months and he quickly bounced back from a rare poor effort when successful at Ayr a couple of weeks ago. Monhammer impressed with how strongly he travelled through that race and he completed the job without his rider needing to get too serious, winning with more in hand than the margin of a length might suggest. He has edged up 3 lb for that cosy success but should give another good account.
15:10 – Makanah
Hasn’t won since landing this conditions event in 2020 but MAKANAH has produced some smart efforts in defeat this term, including when he was only beaten by a neck in the Scottish Sprint Cup over course and distance in June. Makanah has continued to give a good account of himself and ran respectably when sixth in the Portland at Doncaster last month. This is much less competitive and Makanah can give the in-form Julie Camacho another winner.
15:40 – Abduction
Disappointed on his final start for Grant Tuer over this course and distance in August, but ABDUCTION quickly bounced back on his first outing for Jim Goldie at Ayr last month, justifying good support with a game display. Abduction proved as good as ever when following up back at Ayr last time, displaying a potent turn of foot to quicken two lengths clear. He won with a good deal in hand and a 6 lb rise in the weights should not be enough to stop this thriving sort from completing the hat-trick.
16:10 – Espressoo
In good form earlier in the season, winning an Ayr maiden and a Chelmsford handicap before finishing runner-up in a valuable event at York, and ESPRESSOO signalled that she might be returning to that sort of level when not beaten far in fourth at Pontefract last time. Espressoo did some good late work in that six-furling handicap at Pontefract and will be suited by stepping back up to seven furlongs here.

16:45 – Never Dark
NEVER DARK hasn’t won this term but he has returned to form since the cheekpieces were applied, hitting the frame on his last three outings. He was only beaten a short head off this mark when runner-up at Doncaster three starts ago, and that shows he’s competitively treated.
17:15 – Bonito Cavalo
Got back on track when third at Hamilton last time and can have his effort marked up slightly as he wasn’t seen to best effect. BONITO CAVALO was short of room two furlongs out but made headway when switched a furlong out and kept on well. That was only the three-year-old’s sixth start so he remains unexposed and capable of better.
