13:55 – Mujid

MUJID was disappointing at Goodwood last time but it’s possible he was unsuited by the softer ground or the unconventional track, so it could be worth overlooking that effort and instead focusing on his wide-margin win at Ffos Las a month earlier. Mujid had been shaping with encouragement and he confirmed that promise when drawing clear at Ffos Las, recording a 15-length winning margin rarely seen on the Flat. An 8 lb rise in the weights for that dominant success was fair enough and he deserves another chance.

14:30 – Highbank

This has the look of a good-quality novice but the one to side with is HIGHBANK. The 750,000 guineas purchase looked a smart prospect when winning on debut at Newmarket in July, impressing with how he quickened three and three-quarter lengths clear under a hands-and-heels ride after being produced to lead approaching the final furlong. He was unsurprisingly a warm order for the Haynes, Hanson and Clark Conditions Stakes at Newbury on his next outing but he failed to meet expectations and had to settle for a distant second behind another promising sort. Highbank still looked green at Newbury so he should be more streetwise with the experience under his belt, and he can bounce back here to confirm the promise of his debut success.

15:05 – Camacho Star

CAMACHO STAR didn’t offer a great deal in novice company but he has made more of an impact since going handicapping, finishing placed in a couple of seven-furlong nurseries at Newcastle. He caught the eye with how well he travelled last time and, while his finishing effort was underwhelming, the way he moved through the race suggests he’s ahead of his mark. This step up in trip wouldn’t be an obvious move based on how he shaped at Newcastle, but there is some stamina on the dam’s side of the pedigree and this isn’t a strong race.

15:40 – Beautiful Aisling

BEAUTIFUL AISLING was unable to complete the hat-trick at Goodwood last month but she ran well in third to prove her effectiveness over six furlongs, and she also advanced her Timeform rating again. Beautiful Aisling had won a novice and a handicap over five furlongs at Beverley prior to that, showing a good attitude on the second occasion, and she clearly arrives here in good order. The booking of William Buick for the first time is also a positive.

16:15 – Emerald Lady

EMERALD LADY was disappointing at Ayr on Thursday but the heavy ground offers a legitimate excuse for the display. She had run creditably when fifth, beaten less than two and a half lengths, at the same venue last month and she has less to prove than most of her rivals. She also has a relatively recent win to her name having scored at Ffos Las in August.

16:50 – Inver Park

INVER PARK has done well since joining George Boughey from Mick Quinn, winning on three occasions, most notably in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. Inver Park was then below his best when sent off favourite for the Stewards’ Cup (he seemed uncomfortable with such a test of speed over six furlongs) but he ran creditably when beaten little over a length in seventh back in a seven-furlong handicap at Ascot. He will find this less competitive than the races he has been tackling of late and he still appeals as being fairly treated off a mark only 3 lb higher than the one he defied at Royal Ascot.

17:20 – Lady Eros

LADY EROS showed ability when runner-up on debut at Newbury in April and she confirmed that promise when getting off the mark at Wolverhampton a few weeks later. Lady Eros was well placed in a handy position in a race run at a crawl, but she was probably the best horse in any case and looked in control after kicking on the home turn. She has been off for five months but runners from the Gosden stable are rarely short of fitness and this filly, who boasts a useful pedigree, looks up to defying a penalty.
