WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

1:50 Newmarket – Flying Honours

FLYING HONOURS needs to get his career back on track after a near miss in the Royal Lodge Stakes last time. That was a ridiculously run-race for horses who are quite clearly going to stayers in the future as they went no gallop and it turned into a sprint finish. A positive to take from that race was that Flying Honours didn’t get unbalanced sprinting down into the dip and he will appreciate what should be a proper stamina test this time.

2:05 York – Alpha Culture

Most of these are still very much on the improve, but there is no getting away from the rock-solid form of ALPHA CULTURE which has been boosted since Doncaster. He was beaten painfully in a head-bobbing finish then, but can get himself back into the winners’ enclosure now.

2:25 Newmarket – Holloway Boy

Has done very little wrong in three starts so far. Obviously winning on his racecourse debut at the Royal meeting was a super achievement by HOLLOWAY BOY and he bumped into Nostrum last time. That may well prove to be some of the best juvenile form of the season and we’ll soon find out as Nostrum runs later on the card. Holloway Boy will be held up and played late as has become his customary style.

2:40 York – Stay Well

Didn’t run that badly behind the red-hot favourite Marching Army at Newbury 21 days ago and gets a significant 5lb turnaround at the weights. Connections put the blinkers on so obviously feel he was keeping a little bit back for himself in his races. If  STAY WELL takes a little step forward for the change in headgear, he could easily turn around that Newbury form.

3:00 Newmarket – Nostrum

NOSTRUM has long been a talking-horse on the Newmarket gallops and puts that beautiful 100 per cent winning record on the line. Nostrum has obviously been pleasing connections in the 16 days since we last saw him and the master trainer mentioned that he would like to get one more run into him. What a turnout we have with no fewer than six of the seven runners rated upwards from 110 to 115 in official rankings. The form in this contest should be played out at the top level next season.

3:15 York – Gis a Sub (each-way)

He’s only raced at this track on three occasions and has acquitted himself very well each time. He ran too freely towards the front end in the Ayr Gold Cup last time and he has been eased another couple of lbs by the handicapper after that. It won’t be long before GIS A SUB pops up in the winners enclosure at a massive price and this race looks to set up perfectly for him with stablemate and pace runners Bergerac and Mr Wagyu in stalls close by.

3:40 – Newmarket – Evaluation (each-way)

EVALUATION narrowly missed out on a £100,000 bonus for three victories in the Sunday Series when beaten a nose at Sandown last time. Connections can gain some compensation with a massive first prize on offer. Evaluation is still nowhere near reaching his full potential at the moment and this extreme distance may well bring about another pinch of improvement.
