WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
1:50 NEWMARKET – Flying Honours
Ignore Flying Honours’ defeat in a really messy race here last time and he has outstanding claims. He won a Listed race at Salisbury by a wide margin prior to that, and the runner-up went on to win in similar style in the Haynes, Hanson & Clark at Newbury. That form sets a very high bar.
2:05 YORK – Alpha Capture
It’s hard to oppose Alpha Capture here after his excellent second to Two-Year-Old Trophy winner Cold Case in a similar race at Doncaster. He had Goffs Million winner Galeron back in fourth that day, and it’s hard to imagine that form working out better. Bay of Plenty caught the eye on his only start to date and is feared most.
2:25 NEWMARKET – Epictetus
Epictetus was impressive when winning on debut here in the summer, where he had Flying Honours behind. That form has worked out well, and he should progress past form pick Holloway Boy. The latter has run to a high level on all three starts, and should do again, so the straight forecast appeals to me.
2:40 YORK – Protagonist
Protagonist will appreciate the return to a turning 1¼m after making most of the running on the wrong side of the track in the Cambridgeshire last time. He won well at Sandown prior to that and looks to have more to offer.
3:00 NEWMARKET – Chaldean
I can’t work out what Chaldean has to do to be considered a leading juvenile. He’s won the Acomb and the Champagne Stakes in really professional manner, and while beating the same horse both times, increased his margin markedly at Doncaster. He is a push-button ride, and that counts for plenty.

3:15 YORK – Apollo One
A wide-open sprint with pace across the track. I’ve always felt that Apollo One would do well in a big-field sprint handicap on turf, and he’s had very few chances, running well from the front in the Wokingham on his last try. This course will suit better, and he can go well at a big price.
3:40 – NEWMARKET – Land of Winter
Land of Winter was noted staying on strongly over this trip at Chester last time, finishing 2¾ lengths and two places behind Call My Bluff. If there’s enough rain to ensure the going is good or softer, I’d happily back him each-way as he stays forever and can pick up a minor place. If it’s on the quick side, I’ll switch my attentions to Call My Bluff, who stayed on best when third in the trial over C&D last month.
