14:05 – Russet Gold

This should be run at a good pace with several of these liking to go forward. A few progressive types make their handicap debuts, including RUSSET GOLD who was impressive when beating his four rivals at Pontefract in August. He is bred to be useful and can take another step forward. Havana By The Sea is a similar type who comes into this following a win and can give him most to do, while the lightly raced Queenie Rooney could also make her presence felt from the bottom of the weights.

14:40 – Empirestateofmind

Substantial would usually make plenty of appeal being unexposed and representing a top yard, but he is berthed one from the outside and four of the last five runnings have gone to stall 4 or lower. EMPIRESTATEOFMIND, drawn in 5, has been in fine form in his last four outings (improving his RPR each time) and is taken to come out on top. Bopedro is becoming better handicapped and looks the pick of the three representing last year’s winning stable, while Helm Rock, Arthur’s Realm, Master Zoffany and last year’s fourth La Trinidad also enter serious calculations. Isla Kai could be an interesting outsider if the ground is softer than good.

15:15 – Streets Of Gold

The leading contender is STREETS OF GOLD (nap), who is unbeaten in his four starts including a big-field nursery here and a valuable sales race in Ireland in his last two runs. He sets the standard on those wins and has given the impression that he could do even better at this new trip. Shouldvebeenaring (second choice) and Coco Jack are the main form dangers, although Tyrone’s Poppy is on a roll after three wins in a row and he’s an imposing type who is open to more progress. Another who could be in the mix is Peter Chapple-Hyam’s unexposed colt Defence Of Fort.

15:50 – Nathanael Greene

Four of the five principals from a dramatic and extremely tight finish over this trip at Haydock (on good to soft) two weeks ago take each other on again, helping to demonstrate that this race looks highly competitive. Double Cherry and Post Impressionist might be the two best options from that race and are tentatively preferred in that order, but the latter’s stablemate NATHANAEL GREENE left a positive impression with his success over that same C&D (on soft ground) in July and could be the one to side with on this first run since. Aimeric is fourth on the list but lots of them have realistic each-way claims.

16:25 – Nomadic Empire

Plenty are in with a shout. Course specialist Copper Knight can’t be ruled out despite bringing up the rear at Haydock last time and the in-form contenders Good Earth, Mattice and Alligator Alley all need factoring in. Three-year-old pair Catch Cunningham (second choice) and Kimngrace can also have a say but the vote goes to NOMADIC EMPIRE who came good here last September and seems primed for another bold showing off a handy-looking mark.

17:00 – Almaty Star

Bailey Gate has plenty of experience and he’s respected, along with course winner Shaquille, who had a tough task in the Acomb and looks interesting back in calmer waters. Hobson Point and Brooklyn Nine Nine have also shown clear promise, while there are some newcomers who need a close look including Nwaira. However, the vote goes to Roger Varian’s ALMATY STAR, who was an eyecatching third at Haydock on his recent debut and is a big player if he can build on that.

17:35 – Guess

The hat-trick-seeking Astral Beau has to be respected up another 2lb as she only seems to do enough, while Devilwala (second choice) is another to be interested in now that he has rediscovered his form. Global Spirit is worth a second look off the same mark as when winning this two years ago, but the vote goes to GUESS who ran well at Newmarket on his return from a break and remains open to improvement after just five starts. Yaaser and Yanifer are others to consider, while Russco could be an interesting outsider should the ground ease.
