13:31 Newmarket – Crystal Estrella

She has been handed a good draw on her first start for new connections as Crystal Estrella runs over the only 1m 2f straight anywhere in the UK. She was a 275,000 guineas purchase at the Tattersalls July Sales and was last seen winning by an easy, 4 1/2 lengths at Goodwood. She should be able to go through the handicap grades before making her presence felt at a higher level.

13:51 Ascot – Manaccan

Manaccan has been a real model of consistency as he has gone through the grades for this handler and is likely to continue that progression this afternoon. The weather looks like it’s going to hold so the ground will be no hindrance and he looks to have a little bit of pace to run at close by. He’s been handed a stand side draw in stall 10 which is a bonus.

14:06 Newmarket – The Thames Boatman (each-way)

Has been given plenty of time between his first two races and still looked a little inexperienced when finishing a close-up the last time at Kempton. That pipe-opener 10 days ago would’ve put The Thames Boatman spot-on for this big-money chasing assignment now. He does need to improve but that is very possible and he represents a good chunk of each-way value against some more proven runners.

14:25 Ascot – Hamish

Hamish looked really good on his return at Chester and put up a massive performance in the Irish St Leger earlier this month. A reproduction of that form will surely make him hard to beat, and he probably has most to fear from the improving three-year-old Cresta.

14:42 Newmarket – Laurel (each-way)

She is going to need a significant jump of improvement as she sits way below a couple of these on official ratings. It’s not like the Gosden team to throw one in at the deep end for no reason. You only have to think back to stable-mate Commissioning winning a week ago to know that. Laurel has been pretty striking in her two successes to date and she may well just fly under the radar against a bunch of more exposed runners.

15:00 Ascot – Ehraz

Richard Hannon’s charge looked as if he was going to be a sprinter to follow this season running really well in very hot company in the early part of the campaign. Ehraz has been given a 106-day break, but his ability to go well fresh slightly offsets that concern. We have only seen him six times so far so there’s a good bit of untapped potential left.

15:21 Redcar – Jumbeau (each-way)

In a race that looks loaded with natural speed, Jumbeau will be picking her way through the field late in the day as she has done at both York and in the Windsor Castle Stakes last time at the Royal meeting. This has obviously been the focus as she comes in off a break and can reward Tom Clover’s  patience with a big run at an each-way price.

15:36 Ascot – New Kingdom (each-way)

New Kingdom showed he had a real good attitude with a battling success at Doncaster last time and looks to have his ideal conditions again to squeeze some more improvement from him. The market leader Fresh will be all the rage as he has such a good track record, but New Kingdom comes in a little unknown over this 7f distance and can hit the places at least.
