Horse Racing Tips: Timeform’s top picks for Nottingham on Wednesday

13:00 – Telphi

TEPHI is a sister to Middle Park Stakes winner Shalaa and she started at a big price on her debut where she was very much in need of the experience. She was much sharper when beaten a short head at Lingfield next time and she improved further when again second at Beverley last time. Tephi still looked green under pressure on that occasion but came clear of the remainder and she can come forward again. Poseidon Prince has already been gelded but is still a newcomer to note for his top yard and needs checking in the market.

13:35 – Cochin

COCHIN ran only to a modest level on her debut at Kempton last month, but that race wasn’t run at a true pace, though she showed much more when finishing third in a valuable maiden at Salisbury last time. She didn’t settle fully but stayed on well in the closing stages, leaving the impression she’ll relish this step up to a mile, and there should be even more to come. Zarga is a very well-bred filly who disappointed on her latest outing but also remains with potential.

14:10 – Glorious Angel

GLORIOUS ANGEL has endured a busy campaign so far, managing to win twice, including a nursery over course and distance from a 5 lb lower mark. She wasn’t in the same form in a valuable sales race at York on her next start but returned to form back in a handicap when runner-up to a well-treated sort at Newcastle last time. That effort gives her a big chance here from 1 lb higher and she has a capable claimer taking 7 lb off. Cotai Pearl finished third in the same race and is expected to pose the biggest threat.

14:45 -Iris Dancer

IRIS DANCER has recorded her last two wins at Hamilton and produced a career-best effort last time fitted with first-time blinkers. She was settled in midfield but showed a good turn of foot when asked to challenge, powering clear of her rivals in the final stages and the time of that race was good, too. This is a speedier track but if the headgear works well again she should have an excellent chance of following up under a 5 lb penalty. Danzan arrives on the back of a success in the Ayr Bronze Cup and should be suited by this big-field scenario so is another high on the shortlist. 

15:20 – Smiling Jayne

SMILING JAYNE showed improved form to make his second start in a handicap a winning one at Pontefract in May and she has held her form well since, bumping into a handicap blot at Ayr 13 days ago. She was closing on the winner all the way to the line and remains a horse to be interested in at this sort of level having been raised 2 lb in the weights. Balqaa belatedly took advantage of a reduced mark at Newcastle last week and will be a threat again if in the same form turned out under a penalty.

15:55 – Nietzsche

NIETZSCHE is still well treated following a 4-lb rise for his Catterick success and he’s worth a chance to follow up with a promising apprentice rider taking over. Melakaz is in terrific form and should give another good account, while Blistering Barney remains one to view positively having had no luck in running at Pontefract recently.

16:30 – Flylikeaneagle

The thriving FLYLIKEANEAGLE had a bit up his sleeve when scoring at the Ayr Western meeting 12 days ago and may be up to defying the handicapper again. Red Kite heads the dangers along with Tim Easterby pair Strongbowe and Albegrey.
