13:40 – Hunkpapa

More exposed than the majority of these and remains a maiden, but HUNKPAPA has some of the best form on offer in this nursery, and shaped better than the bare result at Catterick last week. Once again he looked the likeliest winner entering the final furlong, but made his effort earlier than ideal and was caught late on. He is clearly on a mark he can win from and this could be the day. Benacre, who is a course and distance winner, found a nursery at York’s Ebor meeting too competitive last time and is worth another chance back in calmer waters.

14:15 – Castle Way

Shaped with plenty of promise when runner-up to a better-fancied stablemate on his debut at Newmarket last month, CASTLE WAY built on that experience when landing the odds at Haydock three weeks ago. He still looked green on that occasion, but won in the style of a useful prospect, and almost certainly has even more to offer, particularly over this slightly longer trip. He can prove too strong for another promising sort in Ndaawi, who got the job done at Goodwood last time and should also appreciate the longer trip.

14:50 – Jewel In My Crown

It is tough to rule any of the these out but JEWEL IN MY CROWN gets a marginal vote. She resumed winning ways making her all-weather debut at Kempton earlier this month and, racing from just a 1 lb higher mark today, Rae Guest’s filly is fancied to notch career success number six. The Whipmaster’s latest effort is easy to excuse so he can chase the selection home, with recent course winner Bad Company also sure to be involved.

15:25 – Saratoga Gold

SARATOGA GOLD showed improved form fitted with first-time blinkers when resuming winning ways at Newbury last month and he had no problem following up over course and distance 16 days later. He came in for a good ride that day, his jockey aware of a lack of pace and not allowing him to get caught too far back, but he had plenty in hand and a subsequent 5 lb rise looks lenient. This doesn’t look any more competitive and he has a strong chance of completing a hat-trick. Eloso also handles this idiosyncratic track well and arrives bidding for his own hat-trick so rates a big threat.

16:00 – Dukeman

Cost 500,000 guineas as a yearling and showed plenty to work on when finishing third in a decent race at Thirsk on debut in July, DUKEMAN confirmed that promise when seeing off one who had already shown useful form at Newcastle last time. That was over a mile, but he should have no problem staying this longer trip, and may even improve further for it, so he looks the one to beat under a penalty. Chantico shaped encouragingly on debut and gets weight from the previous winners, so can’t be ruled out for a bang in-form yard.

16:30 – Wodeton

This looks wide-open but WODETON is one who has already fully confirmed his effectiveness around here and, with the step back up in trip expected to suit on the back of a good third over seven furlongs here four weeks ago, he could be the way to go. There doesn’t appear to be a massive amount of pace on though, and Tribal Wisdom may prove difficult to dislodge if granted his own way on the front end back from a break on handicap debut.

17:05 – Marlay Park

MARLAY PARK goes well at this course and was flying home having met trouble in-running when second to Hodler over course and distance last time. He’s now fancied to turn the tables with the excellent Benoit de la Sayette booked in a race that the pair could dominate. Recent Brighton winner Whistledown also makes appeal in a race that looks quite competitive for the grade.
