Today’s Curragh tips

13:25 – ESPIONAGE
13:55 – MOUNT KING
15:40 – CAROLINE STREET
16:15 – LOT OF JOY
17:20 – PAINTERS PALETTE

13:25 – ESPIONAGE

ESPIONAGE went into many a notebook following an eye-catching debut at Galway earlier this month and can break his maiden in the opener at the Curragh on Irish Cesarewitch day. The son of Galileo was slowly away before flying up the centre of the track to finish second behind stable-mate Alexandroupolis. The benefit of that experience along with several high-class entries makes him the obvious selection under Ryan Moore.

Dark Side looks the biggest danger and is open to further improvement following his second-place finish at Cork on debut for Joseph O’Brien. There was some support in the market for the Qatar Racing Limited runner beforehand and the son of Zoffany should be competitive under Shane Crosse. Elsewhere, Shot Of Love’s debut behind Al Riffa back in August now looks decent form, while debutantes Djockovic and Walsingham might be good enough to challenge for a place.

13:55 – MOUNT KING

MOUNT KING was taken out of a race at Listowel won by stable-mate Lark in The Mornin earlier this week and can break his maiden on his second career start for Joseph O’Brien. The son of National Defense learned plenty on debut when finishing fifth in a typical messy affair at Galway back in July. Having missed the break and receiving plenty of knocks turning for home, he stayed on nicely under a wide challenge behind Roman Hands.

The form of that race was subsequently enhanced with victories for both Keep In Touch and Thunderbear and the extra-furlong looks a positive with Declan McDonagh keeping the ride. Cape Bridgewater will be popular for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore with the son of Australia related to plenty of winners. Elsewhere, Hasiyna is another debutante of note for Dermot Weld with the experienced Starry Heavens a lively contender for Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley.

15:40 – CAROLINE STREET

CAROLINE STREET can claim victory in the Group 3 Weld Park Stakes and secure compensation for her excellent second at Leopardstown to Auguste Rodin earlier this month. Joseph O’Brien is banging in plenty of winners this month with his filly now racing back amongst her own sex following that fine effort in Foxrock. The daughter of No Nay Never travelled beautifully but still looked a little green and can benefit for that experience with a drop back in trip looking ideal on this occasion.

The ever improving and confident Dylan Browne McMonagle takes the ride and should play a waiting game with plenty of pace on offer in opposition. Dower House with Ryan Moore in the saddle along with Basil Martini, Pandora Lovegood and several others should provide a strong gallop with Keep In Touch looking the main danger. The Moyglare filly caught the eye at Naas on debut and has improved nicely for the Weld team having landed her maiden earlier this month.

16:15 – LOT OF JOY

Waterville started the season as a possible dark horse for the Epsom Derby but returns here having just squeezed into the Irish Cesarewitch field for Aidan O’Brien. The mount of Wayne Lordan disappointed in several maidens before finally getting off the mark in handicap company at Limerick back in June. The son of Camelot is a serious player now stepping back-up in trip following his latest start when second at Leopardstown.

However, Willie Mullins knows what it takes to win this contest and LOT OF JOY can give him a fourth victory in eight years. The daughter of Camelot has a nice profile for this race and runs here following a cracking Irish debut behind stable-mate Echoes In Rain at the Galway Festival. It was an eye-catching staying on fourth place finish having not race since the previous November in Sweden. A rating of 93 can see her challenge with Danny Tudhope the most interesting jockey booking.

17:20 – PAINTERS PALETTE

It’s been fantastic to see the Dermot Weld stable back in form and PAINTERS PALETTE can be competitive amongst a big field in the closing 1-mile 2-furlong maiden. The son of Lope De Vega produced a fine comeback run when fourth at Cork earlier this month, having been off the track since May. It was testing conditions in Mallow with the ground here along with the step-up in trip looking ideal for serious challenge under Chris Hayes.

Ryan Moore takes the ride on Harley Street on debut for Aidan O’Brien with the son of Galileo related to both Circling and Easter Lily. Elsewhere, Zoffman has plenty of experience for Neol Meade with Hibernia Oppositus, Imaginarium and Nemean others on the shortlist. It’s a big field but I’m happy to take a punt on the Ballylinch Stud runner who should represent some value and hopefully send us away with a winner.
