16:40 – Joshua R

Competitive fare and a case can be argued for a host of the runners. Just Another, Quanah and Elzaal (second choice) are all capable under these conditions but JOSHUA R was in good form here earlier in the year and he may be able to make a winning return from a 107-day break.

17:15 – Teagarden Jazz

A number of these have been expensive to follow, notably the maidens Noonie, Cappoquin and Gold Charm, and it may be best to side with one of the less-exposed runners in a trappy handicap. The well-related Seeola looks on a fair mark for a yard that can do little wrong if she settles better upped in trip in a first-time hood, but there are risks with her and the vote goes to TEAGARDEN JAZZ, who wasn’t suited by the way the race panned out when not beaten far off this mark last time.

17:45 – Award Dancer

Any number to consider in a competitive handicap, including Millionaire Waltz, who’s won half his ten starts on Tapeta, and ultra-consistent six-time C&D winner Broctune Red. Anif, another who boasts a good record here, has claims despite a 5lb rise for his latest second, but this can go to AWARD DANCER, who is low mileage and has progressed for his current yard since leaving Ireland.

18:15 – Stand Strong

It’s hard to know which way to turn in this competitive and very interesting maiden. Ascot runner-up Blanchland arguably has the best form but tentative preference is for Goldolphin’s once-raced colt STAND STRONG, who wasn’t far behind subsequent Vintage Stakes winner Marbaan when placed over 7f at Salisbury and ought to benefit from today’s step up in trip. King Me and Maasai Mara hold Group 1 entries and both have already shown more than enough to suggest they can win a maiden very soon.

18:45 – Burning Emotion

Three are running on the AW for the first time and only Serenity, who has it to prove, and likely outsider Sweet Mist have run on Tapeta before. It’s also hard to be sure where the pace is coming from, so there are plenty of imponderables, but BURNING EMOTION may yet be capable of better over this trip and is taken to defy a 4lb rise for last month’s win.

19:15 – Hilary’s Boy

It might pay to give another chance to HILARY’S BOY, who was below form on his latest outing but went very close off today’s mark on turf two starts ago and could still have untapped potential on AW surfaces. Second choice is recent 6f turf winner Peachy Carnehan, who will also be suited by today’s trip and surface combination. Front-runner How Bizarre finds winning difficult but ought to give his usual good account.

19:45 – Cool Lightning

It Is Now ought to be right in thick of things but he’s not making any progress and it may pay to chance James Tate’s newcomer COOL LIGHTNING, who is out of a good 2yo sprinter. Pink Parfait is a tricky filly to weigh up on today’s AW debut but she made good late headway to take third on heavy turf this month.

20:15 – Ramon Di Loria

Newmarket raiders Verreaux Eagle and Al Ameen have claims on this year’s best, while Glorious Rio, Bond Power, Robasta (second choice) and Mythical Molly all come into the reckoning. RAMON DI LORIA (nap) may still have a bit more to come for this yard though and he should appreciate the return to 6f having found himself with plenty to do over 5f last time. Similarly patient tactics over this trip could pay dividends.

Friday’s Newcastle Tips:

16:40 – Joshua R
17:15 – Teagarden Jazz
17:45 – Award Dancer
18:15 – Stand Strong
18:45 – Burning Emotion
19:15 – Hillary’s Boy
19:45 – Cool Lightning
20:15 – Ramon Di Loria
