13:43 – BY YOUR SIDE
BY YOUR SIDE was possibly a shade rusty when returning from a break at Yarmouth last time, not settling fully and fading as if in need of the run around two furlongs out. So, with that run under his belt, he could be worth chancing in this open-looking handicap, particularly if the ground turns out to be on the slow side of good. Though most of Royal Prospect’s best form has come on a fast surface, he has performed well on soft in the past and looks set for another leading role, too.

14:18 – DARK CRUSADE
DARK CRUSADE left his debut effort well behind when a close third in a Catterick maiden last month and, with the possibility of better to come still, he could be the answer in what doesn’t look the deepest race of its type. Lady Jane Grey made a successful start on turf at Lingfield in May and wasn’t beaten far back from a break on polytrack there last month, so she may provide the main threat under a penalty.
14:53 – PRAIRIE FALCON
The drop back to six furlongs counted against PRAIRIE FALCON at Newcastle recently, but he still performed with credit and the horse he beat in a Glorious Goodwood nursery in July, X J Rascal, scored off a BHA mark of 81 at Doncaster last week. This lightly-raced juvenile remains open to improvement, particularly now stepping back up in trip, and is taken to resume winning ways from what still looks a fair mark. Hello Deira shapes as though he is ready for this step up in trip and is another to consider now making his handicap debut.
15:28 – WESTERN STARS
WESTERN STARS made his debut in the Wood Ditton at Newmarket which has worked out incredibly well and bumped into another above-average sort on his next start at Ayr. He was a little underwhelming at Musselburgh next time but showed improved form when opening his account on handicap debut at Pontefract in June where he proved very strong at the finish to comfortably beat the reopposing Cosmos Raj. The selection is worse off with that rival now but remains with more potential and is taken to confirm that form. Rich King and Shine On Brendan rate the principal dangers.
16:03 – AS IF BY CHANCE
AS IF BY CHANCE has shown improved form since being fitted with a visor this year, winning handicaps at Nottingham and Thirsk, and he left the impression he has even more to offer when runner-up over course and distance last time. He didn’t get the clearest run on that occasion but was closing on the winner all the way to the line and this past course and distance winner is a horse to remain positive about. Fox Hill is not taken lightly back up in trip, though, while veteran Wentworth Falls has been given a chance by the handicapper.

16:38 – FANCIFUL
The ones with experience don’t set an exacting standard so it is the William Haggas-trained newcomer, FANCIFUL, who is taken to make a winning debut. There is plenty of speed in her pedigree and she is related to numerous winners, so there is plenty to like about her claims on paper for a yard who do well with their horses up here. Proclivity and Noteable look the likeliest dangers.
17:10 – CITY VAULTS
CITY VAULTS showed his first form when opening his account at Ayr last month and he has been kept busy since, wasting no time returning to form when well backed at Ripon two weeks ago and probably would have won with a clear run through. That was an encouraging run and he remains fairly treated having been raised 2 lb in the weights. Desert Quest and Oh So Chic are feared most.
