13:20 Navan – Executive Decision

Kurt Russell played the hero alongside Halle Berry in the 1996 action film EXECUTIVE DECISION and I’m hoping both Shane Foley and Jessica Harrington can fly into Navan and play those roles with victory in the opener on Saturday. The daughter of Ardad wasn’t disgraced on debut when finishing down the field at Cork behind Andrew Slattery’s well-backed Easy, with Arinniti looking her biggest danger in this extended 5-furlong maiden.

The form of that race at Cork was subsequently enhanced with victories for both Queen Of Ours and Sioux Spirit and natural improvement can see her challenge in what looks a winnable race. National Emblem with a similar profile to this horse managed to break his maiden at Gowran this week, so hopefully it’s another quick winner for the Harrington team. The form of Arinniti’s second at Naas back in June hasn’t worked out, but she remains a serious contender now trained by Paddy Twomey.

13:55 Navan – Dontspoilasale (NB)

DONTSPOILASALE has been improving gradually this season for Natalia Lupini and can progress further to land this Premier Nursery under Billy Lee. The son of Kuroshio got off the mark in good fashion at Naas last month and can challenge here despite an improved rating of 84. His sixth-place finish at the Curragh in June stands out with a host of subsequent winners from that maiden – Victoria Road, Wave Machine, Indestructible, Spirit Genie and National Emblem all recent winners.

Billy Lee was in the saddle on that occasion and is booked again with the jockey battling for every winner in his fight with Colin Keane for the jockeys title this season. Elsewhere, Tiger Paw and Silmaniya meet again following a clash at Cork last month with Aidan O’Brien’s runner out quickly following defeat to Treasure Trove in the Round Tower last weekend. I’d fancy the Murtagh runner to turn the form around here but will ultimately have to play runner-up to my Lupini selection.

14:10 Wexford – Magical Zoe (NAP)

There was plenty to like about the bumper victory of MAGICAL ZOE (NAP) at Cork back in May and it was nice to see trainer Barry Fitzgerald make a healthy profit from her sale at Goffs back in April. Henry De Bromhead is her new handler, and it would be no surprise to see her remain unbeaten by winning on her hurling debut. She showed a lot of gears and quality on debut and with some stamina in her pedigree, she can develop into a nice novice hurdler this season.

Light Fury might provide the biggest danger having finished third twice from three starts over hurdles. She can push forward from her latest start with cheekpieces now fitted for the first time by trainer Padraig Roche. Elsewhere, Lenebane can also improve for Ross O’Sullivan with both Mr Sundancer and Abstract others in with each-way chances. However, Magical Zoe looks the one with most potential and looks the best bet for me between both Irish cards this Saturday.

15:05 Navan – Sablonne

A drop down in grade and distance along with the introduction of blinkers for the first time can see SABLONNE land this 5f handicap for Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley. The daughter of Dark Angel raced forward and ran well when finishing seventh, only beaten close to 3 lengths behind Perfect News in the Ballyogan Stakes at Naas and that effort can see her go close now back in handicap company.

Similar tactics to her handicap victory at Naas (rated 90 on that occasion) back in June can see her dominate from the front, with the help of blinkers and a drop back in trip looking ideal. She ticks plenty of boxes and can get the better of King Of Bavaria who returns quickly for Aidan O’Brien. Seamie Heffernan’s mount is bound to improve for his second-place finish at Cork but despite been rated 6Ibs superior might struggle at this trip with his best form also coming on softer ground.
