These are hardly a prolific bunch and it is TYNWALD who makes the most appeal. He has been ridden by this rider on all but one occasion this season and they won a similar event at Hamilton in June. Heavy ground was a possible excuse for his below-par effort at Ffos Las last time and it would be no surprise if he bounced back now. Carrigillihy has dropped to his last successful mark, which makes him of interest, while Richard R H B should come on for last month’s return at this venue, too.
14:10 – Polyphonic
POLYPHONIC has a smart pedigree and he showed the benefit of a gelding operation when opening his account at Carlisle last week. He proved a totally different proposition after 10 weeks off, ridden in a more positive manner, and finally showing something more of what might have been expected from his pedigree. It is no surprise connections have found an opportunity for him under a penalty given the manner of that success and he will be hard to beat if in the same form. Sea Speedwell seemed unsuited by the track on handicap debut at Goodwood (solid form) and she remains capable of better.

14:40 – Sakheer
SAKHEER cost a whopping €550,000 at the Breeze-Ups earlier this year and he was all the rage in the betting ahead of his debut at Windsor 17 days ago. He wasn’t able to land that support, but he did shape with plenty of promise, bumped over two furlongs out when starting to make headway, and staying on well to finish second with another promising newcomer. He is entitled to take a big step forward now and should take all the beating granted normal improvement. The penalised-winner Kitbag can follow him home, though all three newcomers need checking in the market.
15:10 – Castle Way
CASTLE WAY went into many notebooks when finding only his stablemate who had prior experience too good in a Newmarket maiden just under three weeks ago and, sure to improve with that initial outing under his belt, Charlie Appleby’s colt may well take some stopping today. Paisano and Tellateller both showed promise first time up last month and they are taken to chase the selection home.

15:40 – Zabbie
ZABBIE showed improved form to open her account at Doncaster last month, appreciating the step up to seven furlongs, and her latest effort when third at Newmarket received a big boost when the runner-up when close in a sales event recently. She now races from a 1 lb lower mark and has a big chance of resuming winning ways under William Buick. Drafted and Oscar’s Sister are potential improvers now moving into handicap company for the first time and may give Richard Hannon’s filly most to do.
16:15 – Dubai Poet
DUBAI POET remains with just one win to his name, but he can boast some solid form in defeat this season, notably finishing placed in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on his last two starts. This represents a drop in class for him now and he very much looks the one to beat on these terms, so he is strongly fancied to take advantage of a good bit of placing. Johan, who won the Lincoln at Doncaster earlier in the season, has a good record fresh and looks the main danger.
16:45 – Persist
The William Haggas-trained PERSIST is beautifully bred – by Frankel and the first foal out of QEII winner Persuasive – and she showed improved form to open her account on her return at Ripon this season. She has been hindered by slow starts on her last two starts, but should have more to offer at this trip, and is well worth another chance to prove herself on a lenient mark. She’s preferred to Elena’s Gift, who could take some pegging back if she gets her own way in front.
