A 250,000 guineas purchase as a yearling, CHARYN has a good, speedy pedigree being a brother to Mill Reef winner Wings of War and he made a promising start to his career when winning on debut at Haydock a few weeks ago. Charyn landed that valuable maiden in the style of a useful prospect so can defy a penalty here.

14:10 – Roach Power
Ran poorly when down the field at York on his penultimate outing but ROACH POWER bounced back to make the most of a good opportunity at Ripon last time, not needing to improve to open his account in that five-furlong novice. Roach Power steps back up in trip here, but he coped well enough on his sole previous outing over seven furlongs and he appeals as being on a decent handicap mark.
14:45 – Woolhampton
Remains a maiden but WOOLHAMPTON is progressing well and just about heads Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings based on the form she showed when third in a listed contest at Newbury last time. Woolhampton seemed to excel herself when runner-up in Newbury’s five-furlong Super Sprint, finishing two and a quarter lengths behind Eddie’s Boy, but she confirmed that improvement when third at listed level over the same course and distance last time. She meets Eddie’s Boy on better terms than in the Super Sprint and can reverse the form, with the step back up to six furlongs unlikely to cause any issues.
15:15 – Great Ambassador
One of the most progressive sprinters around last season, winning on three occasions, including at listed level. GREAT AMBASSADOR also shaped extremely well in two of the most competitive sprint handicaps, finishing placed in the Stewards’ Cup and Ayr Gold Cup after coming home first in his group. He took a couple of starts to hit his stride this term but he looked as good as ever when sixth in the Stewards’ Cup last month, again finishing first in his group, and that eye-catching effort marks him out as the one to beat.
15:50 – Traila
TRAILA looked a useful prospect when getting off the mark at the second attempt last season and he shaped with promise when third in a good-quality novice on his reappearance at Doncaster last month. The form of that race has worked out nicely with the first two both winning next time out and Traila is entitled to be sharper with the run under his belt. The step up to a mile and three-quarters (from a mile and a half) could also bring about improvement from this stoutly-bred four-year-old who is by Australia and out of a smart mare who stayed this trip. He goes handicapping from a fair-looking mark on what is also his first start for David Simcock having been bought out of Sir Michael Stoute’s yard.

16:25 – Sarsons Risk
Showed improved form to get off the mark at Leicester a few weeks ago, SARSONS RISK knuckled down well to overhaul a rival who was better positioned in a race run at a steady gallop. Sarsons Risk won a shade cosily at Leicester so a 4 lb rise in the weights may not be enough to stop this well-bred sort now that he’s up and running.
16:58 – Helvetian
Looked on good terms with himself when scoring at Pontefract last month, HELVETIAN travelled better than most before making headway on the approach to the home turn, and leading inside the final half-furlong. He has a 4 lb higher mark to defy in a stronger race here but he arrives on the back of a career-best effort and handles cut in the ground.
