Gold Wing has made a promising start over hurdles, finishing placed at Newton Abbot and Worcester, and she remains open to a spot of improvement in this sphere as she goes handicapping. She was a fair maiden on the Flat and, based on that level, an opening mark of 97 over hurdles might underestimate her.

13:30 – Sea Prince
Sea Prince, a dual winner over hurdles, has made a bright start to his chasing career, finishing third at Worcester and then runner-up at Bangor where he rallied well up the run-in. This is not a strong race and it looks like a good opportunity for Sea Prince to get off the mark over fences.
14:05 – Manofthemountain
Manofthemountain has won five times over fences and should be too good if showing anything like that level over hurdles. He ran up to his best when runner-up in the useful and competitive Clarke Chase at Uttoxeter in May and shaped as if still in form when sixth in the Summer Plate at Market Rasen last time. His chance is enhanced by receiving 6 lb from his two rivals.
14:40 – La Domaniale
La Domaniale has flourished since being sent chasing and, given the upward curve she is tracking, may still have more to offer. She had been expensive to follow over hurdles but proved a different proposition on her chasing debut at Uttoxeter in June, winning with a fair amount in hand after jumping accurately and travelling strongly. She had to settle for second behind another progressive rival at Worcester but registered an impressive victory back at Uttoxeter before finishing runner-up in the Summer Plate. She shaped well in the Summer Plate, moving like the best horse at the weights, and a 5 lb rise in the weights shouldn’t be enough to stop her in this slightly less competitive affair.

15:15 – Sergeant
Sergeant enjoyed a productive campaign last season, winning three times and finishing runner-up on his other three completed starts. He wasn’t disgraced when fourth on his return at Newton Abbot last month, proving one-paced after making headway on the home turn, and he ought to be sharper with that outing under his belt. He remains on a competitive mark and his trainer Milton Harris has been among the winners.
15:50 – Flying Verse
Flying Verse had been disappointing but, following a breathing operation, he produced his best effort for a while when runner-up here last month. He rallied well to be beaten only half a length and even after a 4 lb rise in the weights he is still well treated on his old form. He is 11 lb lower than the mark he defied at Kelso last October.
16:20 – Spy Lady
Spy Lady won an Irish point in May and is worth siding with on her debut under Rules. She has joined Milton Harris who has his string in good order and whose representatives are usually fit enough and streetwise enough to do themselves justice on bumper debut.
