13:50 – Maria Branwell (each-way)

The first of Paddy’s Pick 5 races for Thursday and Maria Branwell was going through the grades very smoothly and ran an absolute cracker in the Queen Mary at the Royal meeting prior to a below par effort in the Super Sprint at Newbury. It looks as if the distance caught her out, however, there was so much money on offer that they had to try. She now takes in an extra 220 yards that should enable her to travel a little smoother in the early stages. She looks completely overlooked in the market and is a big each-way shout.

14:25 – Redemption Time

Redemption Time‘s novice form couldn’t have worked out any better with the likes of Noble Style and Royal Scotsman around him and both will probably turn up later in the week at York. He managed to get his head in front at Bath and didn’t get any luck late on in the Norfolk. However, he was also caught out by the distance and should appreciate the step up to 6f. He looks a big player.

15:00 – Ouzo (each-way)

Ouzo was very unlucky not to win two starts back at Sandown and then they completely changed his tactics and tried to go forward and make the running in the golden mile. He didn’t run bad in the circumstances and I’m hopeful with a bit more pace in here, he can revert to his hold up tactics. He has winning form here previously for the Richard Hannon team. He doesn’t look badly weighted and again is a double-digit price.

15:35 – Alpinista

Alpinista is looking for a remarkable fifth Group 1 on the bounce having been globetrotting and she now bids to taste her first success at the highest level on home soil. She seems completely flexible as regards going conditions so the forecast shower or two in Yorkshire hold no fears whatsoever. Another victory here will see her go close to favouritism for the Prix de l’Arc de Triiomphe in October.

16:10 – Golden Lyra

Golden Lyra should arguably be coming in here with the perfect 100% record as her second placing at Newbury was a touch unlucky with the winner getting the run down on the inside. She made no mistake in emphatic fashion at Kempton after that though and she is stepped up to this 1m 4f distance for the first time and she surely will appreciate the galloping nature of this venue on her return to the turf.

13:50 – Maria Branwell (each way)
14:25 – Redemption Time
15:00 – Ouzo (each way)
