Baaeed, hailed by many as the best horse since Frankel, makes his long-awaited step up in trip in the Juddmonte International.

William Haggas’ charge, with a perfect record of nine from nine over a mile, continues to copy Frankel’s famed four-year-old campaign after being declared for Wednesday’s 15:35 at York.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

Baaeed’s five rivals include last year’s winner Mishriff and Irish 2000 Guineas scorer Native Trail. Dubai Honour, High Definition and Sir Busker complete the field.

Juddmonte International runners

Alenquer

Trainer: William Haggas Jockey: Non-Runner Age: 4 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 2

NON-RUNNER

Baaeed

Trainer: William Haggas Jockey: Jim Crowley Age: 4 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 6

Top-class colt who is unbeaten in 9 starts over 1m, easily taking the Lockinge at Newbury, Queen Anne at Royal Ascot and Sussex at Glorious Goodwood this summer. Pedigree suggests this trip might even suit him better. Can’t be opposed.

*****

Dubai Honour

Trainer: William Haggas Jockey: Cieren Fallon Age: 4 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 3

Big improver over 1¼m at 3, winning pair of Group 2s in France and second in Group 1 Champion Stakes in the autumn. Not at quite the same level in 2 outings this year (edged out by Sir Busker in C&D Group 2 latterly) but there’s still time for him to resume his progression.

***

High Definition

Trainer: Aidan O’Brien Jockey: Ryan Moore Age: 4 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 7

Always been highly-touted and finally produced the sort of performance his juvenile form suggested he was capable of when second under an aggressive ride in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh in May. Not in the same form since and surprise were he to add to his trainer’s 6 wins in this.

**

Mishriff

Trainer: John & Thady Gosden Jockey: James Doyle Age: 5 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 5

Top-class horse who recorded third Group 1 win of career when pulling 6 lengths clear in this race last year. Back to best when edged out by Vadeni (Native Trail head back in third) in Eclipse at Sandown last month. Below par when well-held third in King George since but capable of bouncing back.

***

Sir Busker

Trainer: William Knight Jockey: Ben Curtis Age: 6 Weight: 9st 8lbs Draw: 1

Smart performer broke his drought at pattern level when edging out the reopposing Dubai Honour in C&D Group 2 in July. He is unexposed at this trip but still a major surprise were he to follow up.

**

Native Trail

Trainer: Charlie Appleby Jockey: William Buick Age: 3 Weight: 9st 1lbs Draw: 4

Landed a third Group 1 success of his career when comfortably seeing off 8 rivals in the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh in May. Ran up to his best tackling 1¼m for the first time when third (Mishriff just ahead in second) in Eclipse at Sandown last time. Should give another good account.

Juddmonte International tips

Timeform: BAAEED has been all conquering over 1m and has a pedigree which suggests he should prove at least as effective over this trip so he’s strongly fancied to make it a perfect 10-10. Mishriff, so impressive in this 12 months ago, and Native Trail are very closely matched on Eclipse form and can fight it out for the forecast spot.
