A tightly-knit handicap in which SAMEEM is taken to capitalise on a handy-looking mark and end a long losing run. He turned in his best effort of the season when runner-up in a similar event at Haydock last time and he is more than capable of winning a race of this nature for an in-form yard. Recent Beverley winner Irv is another to be interested in and can pose the biggest threat.
TALAMANCA showed much improved form when opening his account in great style at Windsor last week and has excellent claims of following up turned out under a 6 lb penalty. He was liberated by a return to sprinting and switch to front-running tactics, going with plenty of enthusiasm and readily stretching clear. He will be hard to beat if in the same form. Man Made of Smoke rates the biggest danger.
QUERCUS has gone especially close on his last two starts over course and distance and can deservedly resume winning ways now. He would have more than likely won had he kept straight at the finish, hanging left when challenged inside the final furlong and only headed on the line by the reopposing Rain Cap. He is clearly in top form at present and is expected to reverse that form now. Sfumato, dropped back to 6f, is a threat, as is Gullane One from a handy draw.
KEY LOOK was well backed and ran her best race of the season when runner-up at Doncaster at the end of last month and she can be marked up for that effort, faring easily the best of the four horses who raced on the stands side. She travelled through that race like she is back in top form and this course and distance winner remains a horse to be interested in from a mark which is 2 lb lower than her last winning one. It is also worth noting that she came good in the second half of the season last year. Far From A Ruby, who resumed winning ways at Ayr last time, can give the selection most to think about.

HILARY’S BOY arrives here in good order, successful at Leicester in July prior to a good second back at that venue three weeks ago, and a repeat performance should see him firmly in the mix once more. Obee Jo caught the eye to an extent at Ayr on his latest outing and is feared back at this track, while Absolute Dream and Barrister Blaster are a couple of others to note in an open handicap.
This isn’t a deep race by any means and it will be disappointing if REMEMBERING isn’t able to open her account. She made a most encouraging debut when third to Emily Upjohn on her debut at Sandown (strong form) but she failed to improve as expected when sent off odds-on for her next start at Redcar. She has been given a break since and steps up further in trip now, and based on her debut form she should be very hard to beat. Firebolt and Menelaus are the obvious dangers.
There are several to consider here, but the vote goes to ASTAPOR, who looks the pick of these at the weights on the form of his excellent recent Redcar second, and he is worth backing to go one place better now. Red Allure is next on the list on the back of her Carlisle success, although course and distance scorers King Crimson and Golden Gal both seem sure to be on the premises, too.
