The ones with experience don’t set a high bar in this minor event, so it is worth taking a chance on newcomer CINQUE VERDE, who makes appeal on paper and represents a yard that are having an excellent season with their juveniles. The market will likely reveal more, but she is preferred to Talha, who cost a fair bit as a yearling and is also bred to be useful.

14:25 – Glory And Honour
GLORY AND HONOUR had some fair form in bumpers and over hurdles for Tom Lacey and is beginning to find his feet for new connections, winning his last two starts over this trip at Catterick and Thirsk. He had more in hand than the official margin suggests for his latest win, coming from the back of the field and overcoming a modest pace, so he looks very interesting in pursuit of a hat-trick now just 4 lb higher in the weights. Wor Willie was a wide-margin winner over this course and distance last month and looks the obvious threat.
15:00 – Gale Force Maya
A wide draw isn’t ideal but GALE FORCE MAYA has a series of efforts in top-end handicaps to her name to suggest she is up to winning at this level. She attracted support and proved better than ever when resuming winning ways at York last time, showing a determined attitude in the closing stages and that looks strong form. She can also boast a good record at this track with two course and distance wins and another bold bid is expected. Chil Chil will be a major threat if recapturing anything like her best form, though.
15:35 – Ikhtiraaq
This looks an excellent opportunity for IKHTIRAAQ to record another success. He was strong in the betting after 11 weeks off and displayed a cracking attitude when winning a handicap at Yarmouth in June, narrowly beating another progressive three-year-old who went on to win next time out. He made all of the running that day so shouldn’t get drawn into a tactical battle and it will be disappointing if he doesn’t follow up. Sanitiser may be the one to chase him home wearing cheekpieces for the first time.

16:10 – Gordons Aura
Cases can be made for most but GORDONS AURA looks a three-year-old firmly on the up for Sir Mark Prescott, and with this extra three furlongs likely to bring out even more improvement, he gets the nod to open his account following a couple of solid efforts. Maggie’s Delight showed improved form when runner-up on handicap debut at Yarmouth last month so she heads up the opposition, with Flint Hill another to consider.
16:45 – Three Start
THREE START remains a maiden but he has shown ability on more than one occasion and it may be worth forgiving him a below-par effort at Southwell last time. His previous effort, when narrowly denied at Sandown, is proving strong form, and if he runs to a similar level here he should be able to open his account. Majestic is the likeliest to capitalise if the selection fluffs his lines.
17:20 – Dream Together
DREAM TOGETHER hasn’t had the rub of the green on a couple of occasions this season and, having performed with credit in a deeper race than this at York, he looks the way to go given he’s on his last winning mark. Cottam Lane is back at the scene of his last win and is a danger.
