General Lee will be fitter for a spin at Goodwood, which was his first start since March. He did well in the second half of last season when blinkers were first fitted and he should be ready to kick on again, with Mohammed Tabti’s 7lb claim a plus.

Florida Filly may be worth chancing in a race where none are convincing. She didn’t stay 6f at York last time, but her previous win at Hamilton – where she had a pair of next-time-out scorers behind here – reads well, and a repeat of that would give her every chance.

13:55 Newbury – Candle of Hope
Candle of Hope has a bit to find with Victory Dance on form, but impressed with her demeanour when an easy winner at Thirsk, and her time figure for that easy win matches that of the favourite.
14:10 Newmarket – Atlantis
Atlantis has looked slow given her pedigree (half-sister to City of York St winner Shine So Bright), but she travelled better in cheekpieces when winning easily at Doncaster on handicap debut. She ought to stay this trip given how she’s been shaping, and can defy a 9lb rise.

14:30 Newbury – Outbox
Outbox needs to dominate after flopping on the last two occasions. A course and distance winner, he has a chance to lead here and can bounce back to form.
14:50 Ripon – Justanotherbottle
Justanotherbottle is unbeaten in three tries over C&D, including in this race last year, and he did that after flopping in the Stewards’ Cup, which he did again last time. A return to this venue will suit him, and he can track Emperor Spirit through on the nearside before pouncing, just as he did when the pair met here in June.
15:00 Newbury – Dance Fever
This is the first race in Paddy’s Pick 5 competition. Dance Fever should be hard to beat here after bouncing back to form when second at Goodwood. A 7f specialist, he represents the yard which has won this for the past two years, and is handicapped to bring up the hat-trick.
15:18 Newmarket – Wentworth Falls
Wentworth Falls looked as good as ever when second at Doncaster in May, and was badly drawn last time. He’s not easy to win with, but was beaten just a head in this race last year, and has belatedly fallen below that mark.
15:35 Newbury – Pogo
Pogo continues to thrive, and I thought he showed real tenacity to fight back when headed in the Lennox Stakes last time. He’s a hard horse to pass at this trip, and there are few gamer in training.
