13:20 Newbury – Definite
Another busy day on ITV Racing gets under way here with a handicap over 1m2f. Not easy this with some horses having disappointed last time who should have done better. I’ll stick with DEFINITE for Hector Crouch and Ralph Beckett. My hope may well try and make all the running and was impressive at Haydock two runs ago. He was beaten in a small field at Nottingham last time but it was probably still a fair run.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
13:40 Ripon – New Definition
ITV also go to Ripon Saturday for this conditions stakes for youngsters over 5f. I’ll stick with NEW DEFINITION for James Tate and PJ McDonald. The Invincible Spirit colt has only been in small fields of late but was a good winner at Kempton three runs ago and might be capable of better.

13:55 Newbury – Victory Dance
This is the Listed Denford Stakes for juveniles over 7f. Hard to get away from VICTORY DANCE for William Buick and Charlie Appleby. The son of Dubai scored nicely on debut at Newmarket and then was beaten narrowly by Isaac Shelby in the Superlative Stakes. That form should be good enough here.
14:10 Newmarket – Australian Angel
ITV are also at Newmarket Saturday for this fillies’ handicap over 1m6f. Atlantis could be thrown in but surely AUSTRALIAN ANGEL will go close for Andrew Balding and Hayley Turner. The daughter of Australia stays well and has two decent victories to her name at Windsor and Sandown from her last three starts. She’s up 3lb for scoring in a three-runner race but still should go well.

14:30 Newbury – Zechariah
The Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes over an extended 1m5f. A desperate renewal in truth. ZECHARIAH might well be good enough for Freddie and ±Martyn Meade and the excellent Tom Marquand. My selection was a fine second in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot but then was outpaced in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket. This is easier.
14:50 Ripon – Snash
The big betting race of the day in the Great St Wilfrid Handicap over 6f. I’m hoping this will go to the improving SNASH for Tim Easterby and David Allan. My hope is in great form after recent wins at Thirsk and Ayr and was unlucky in between those when hampered in defeat at York. Despite that Snash rallied well and although up 3lb from 87 to 90 he’s in the form of his life. Back him each way.
15:00 Newbury – Dance Fever
A handicap over 7f and this is the first race in Paddy’s Pick 5 competition. DANCE FEVER is now a well handicapped horse and might be ready to score for Clive Cox and Adam Kirby. The five-year-old has form in big-field handicaps and was a fine third at Goodwood last time. That said he can operate in smaller line-ups with his last success coming in an eight-runner race at Leicester in 2021. About time he got back in the winner’s enclosure.
15:18 Newmarket – Lord Rapscallion
Finally, the grey horse handicap over 6f. LORD RAPSCALLION has a third in a Bunbury Cup and fourth in a Buckingham Palace to his name and he must have every chance of outclassing a small field. Ideally he’s better at 7f, but I still think he’ll take all the stopping for Stuart Williams and Callum Shepherd.
15:35 Newbury – Primo Bacio
The feature at Newbury in the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes over 7f. An open renewal. PRIMO BACIO has not really done much for some time now but wasn’t totally disgraced in the Oak Tree at Goodwood when fifth behind Oscula. The Ed Walker runner has to do more to get into this but will be huge odds and is worth a few quid each way under Richard Kingscote.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
