13:20 Newbury –  Rogue Rocket

He has been running well lately and won pretty well over the mile at Salisbury wo starts back. From a 7lbs higher mark, he then ran a cracker at Sandown suggesting that this 1m 2f trip was the right way to go. Jockey Connor Plannas is a name to keep on the right side of. He takes off a valuable 7lb and can produce ROGUE ROCKET late in the day on this galloping track.

13:40 Ripon – Prince of Pillo

Looked really good when overcoming his inexperience when winning on his racecourse debut at Ayr. Despite being drawn on the wing, he gathered momentum and ended up winning quite smoothly and will not be inconvenienced by the drop back down to rf. From a physical point of view, PRINCE OF PILLO is only going to improve and looks the type to take this and step up in grade later on.

13:55 Newbury – Victory Dance

He sets a very high standard for the others to step up to and was only beaten a head in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at the July meeting last time. VICTORY DANCE is already rated 105 and that looks nowhere near his ceiling mark. This can be a nice confidence-boosting success, before stepping right back up the ladder in grade.

14:10 Newmarket – Atlantis

The three-year-olds at this time of year get such a massive weight allowance off the older horses that’s it’s hard to get away from the claims of Atlantis in this line-up. She was never going any better than right on top of the line over a quarter mile shorter at Doncaster last time and the formidable, resurrected combination of the Gosdens and Dettori, can land the spoils.

14:30 Newbury – Universal Order

David Simcock’s runner was very unlucky not to get the job done at Haydock on just his second start since a lengthy absence. For whatever reason, he never raised a gallop at Newmarket last time and is much better than that. He wouldn’t be pitched in a race like this –  that his trainer has won before – if he wasn’t bouncing and ready to go. It’s not the strongest renewal and the youngster Zachariah looks to be the main danger.

14:50 Ripon – Embour

Ran well in this contest last season when not getting the clearest of passages and EMBOUR returns off  the back of an excellent effort over 5f at the Glorious Goodwood meeting. Saffy Osborne takes off a valuable 3lbs and although not being drawn particularly well in a smaller-than-normal field, he should get to edge his way left-handed to the favoured stand side of the track.

15:00 Newbury – United Front

The first leg of Paddy’s Free to Enter Pick 5 competition today and I’m going for a bit of value. He’s going to fly under the radar as he returns off 120 days away from the racecourse, but there is no getting away from the fact UNITED FRONT is very well handicapped. Frederick Larson takes 5lbs off his back and while he’s obviously not as good on the turf as he is on the all-weather, he has some very good form figures on the turf from a higher perch than this. He was fancied for the Lincoln Handicap that started the Flat Turf season and can make a splash returning from a break.

15:18 Newmarket – Mister Bluebird

Managed to win a couple in decent style earlier on in the campaign and was returning off a little break six days ago when putting up a very tidy pipe-opening performance at Haydock over this 6f trip. We can definitely take it that MISTER BLUEBIRD has been targeted at the ‘grey horse’ handicap. Harry Davies takes 5lb off the top weight to negate the climb he’s made through the handicap ranks this season.

15:35 Newbury – Wings of War (each-way)

The three-year-old contested some very tough sprints races throughout the early part of the campaign and ran as if the step up in distance to 7f was required when a close fourth to Go Bear Go at the Curragh last week. The blinkers come off WINGS OF WAR now in favour of cheekpieces and Adam Kirby is very close to his minimum weight which is a pointer in itself. He’s a big each-way player in the Hungerford Stakes.
