13:35 Ascot – Stone Soldier

A marathon on ITV Racing Saturday gets under way here with a classified stakes over 7f. A tough day ahead! This race is gagging for a front runner to take it by the scruff of the neck and the one might be STONE SOLDIER for Archie Watson. My selection is rated much higher on the all-weather but knows how to win on turf and many of the leading contenders here are closers. It might allow someone to get away on the front end.

14:10 Ascot – Dusky Lord

This is the Shergar Cup Dash Handicap over 5f. DUSKY LORD is in good form for Roger Varian and must have an eachway chance. A fourth at Newmarket was followed by a fine second behind Lord Riddiford at Glorious Goodwood and while he is up 1lb for that he mjust have a chance as a horse in form.

14:25 Haydock – Electrical Storm

ITV are also at Haydock Saturday for a handicap over 1m. ELECTRICAL STORM will surely take some catching here for Saeed bin Suroor and Andrea Atzeni. My hope stays this trip strong and can go from close to the pace in a small field. He returned with a good win at York and off 9lb higher was then a fine third at Sandown. He remains on 92 here with a great chance.

14:45 Ascot – Super Superjack

Now the Shergar Cup Stayers’ Handicap over 2m. I thought SUPER SUPERJACK should have won at Glorious Goodwood for this column and I’ll give him another chance here even though he’s up 4lb. Milton Harris has a useful stayer on his hands and he’s clearly in good form. He got going too late against Master Milliner.

15:00 Haydock – Grocer Jack

A Group 3 in the Rose of Lancaster over an extended 1m2f is the first of Paddy’s Pick 5 races on Saturday. GROCER JACK was impressive last time and will love these conditions even more. The German import had some class form back in the day but had disappointed in the UK before slamming Cadillac at Newbury last time. If repeating that freakish effort he should score for Tom Marquand and William Haggas.

15:20 Ascot – State Of Bliss

Here is the Shergar Cup Challenge Handicap over 1m4f. STATE OF BLISS is not a horse you can totally rely on to produce his best but he has every chance here off 89 for Charlie and Mark Johnston. The four-year-old was a good winner at Ripon a few runs ago off 87 and while well stuffed since is quite capable of bouncing back. He’s that type. A good draw for a prominent racer.

15:40 Newmarket – Ivory Madonna

ITV show one race at Newmarket in this Group 3 Solera Stakes for juveniles over 7f, which is another of Paddy’s Pick 5 races on Saturday. A wide open event. IVORY MADONNA is still a maiden but might have a right chance for Richard Spencer and Richard Kingscote. The daughter of Dark Angel looked as though she needed 7f when third in the Albany at Royal Ascot and again when keeping on behind Funny Story at Newmarket last time. She was the beaten 11-8 favourite that day and it’s always a risk with a maiden but this might not be a great renewal.

15:55 Ascot – Montassib

More Shergar Cup action here over 1m. MONTASSIB wants softer ground but without doubt he’s the horse with potential in this line up for William Haggas. The Bunbury Cup fourth will be suited by this step up in distance and kept on really well over 7f when fifth in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at this track.

16:15 Curragh – Blackbeard

The final race of Paddy’s Pick 5  is the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes to the billing for youngsters over 6f. This is a cracker. BLACKBEARD was only fourth behind Bradsell and Persian Force in the Coventry at Royal Ascot and can’t beat those two on that form. But I suspect he didn’t run to his best that day and he was right back to looking a monster at Chantilly last time in Group 2 company. The son of No Nay Never stays well and might be a different proposition here to at Ascot now that he is back on home soil.

16:30 Ascot – Berkshire Breeze

The Shergar Cup Classic Handicap for 3yo over 1m4f. BERKSHIRE BREEZE is still a maiden so his desire to win has to be taken on trust but he’s certainly capable of a victory. He didn’t quite see it out over further at this track last time but his previous form over about this trip was promising and he should have a great chance for Andrew Balding.

17:05 Ascot – Sterling Knight

Finally the Shergar Cup Sprint Handicap for 3yo over 6f. These are ideal conditions for STERLING KNIGHT who was a terrific winner at this track in May. He’ll like a strong pace to run at and while he’s up in the handicap now he ran a perfectly reasonable race behind Cuban Breeze at Windsor on Monday.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
