13:05 – Classic
Classic looked a smart prospect when fourth on debut at Newbury. He’s out of George Washington’s only foal Date With Destiny, and holds entries in the Champagne Stakes and the 2023 Derby. The Foxes also ran well on debut at Newbury, finishing a nose behind Marbaan, who won the Vintage Stakes here on Tuesday. The pair set a very high standard and should finish first and second.

13:40 – Lethal Levi
Karl Burke’s Lethal Levi has come on in leaps and bounds and gets in here on 9lb lower than his current mark due to the fact this is effectively an early-closing race. In short, he looks banker material here, and while he’s sure to be a fairly short price, I doubt he’ll be nearly as short as he should be.

14:10 – Valley Forge
Valley Forge finished weakly when seventh in the Northumberland Plate, but he travelled like the Wrath of God that day, and I thought his stamina ran out over that testing two miles behind Trueshan. Good or good to firm ground is important to him, and his record in such a surface after a recent run reads 2111, including wins in the Melrose at York last year and over 2m at Haydock in May.
14:45 – Viola
Viola got a poor ride when just behind Sea La Rosa at Haydock, and looks value at the respective odds. She ran into a smart one at Newmarket last time, but kept on well, and is worth trying at this longer trip.

15:20 – Summerghand
Stall 10 is not ideal for Summerghand, but he came down the centre when winning this race two years ago, and his hold-up style means his draw is less crucial than if he needed to be on the pace. He is 8lb lower than for his win in 2020, and his form figures in July and August in the past five years outside Group company read: 12131342112015. He came back to form when fifth in the Wokingham and I’ll be disappointed if he’s out of the places.
15:55 – Laasudood
Laasudood has run his only sub-par races at Newmarket, so it’s easy to forgive him an underwhelming effort there last time, when he didn’t seem to enjoy the track. His second to Secret State at Nottingham has worked out tremendously well, with the winner scoring at Royal Ascot and then earlier in the week here.
