13:50 Goodwood – Make My Day

I’m going to chance on MAKE MY DAY for Gary Moore. He was a bit disappointing in a red-hot handicap at Ascot and was narrowly beaten in his previous two starts on the Flat at Ascot and Goodwood. However, he was winner off a mark of 90 in 2020 when trained by Rafe Beckett and he’s only had nine starts on turf. Gary Moore is sure to pop up at some point this week and off a mark of 92 I think this one is definitely workable as my each-way selection.

14:25 Goodwood – Berkshire Shadow

At the prices, I want to take BERKSHIRE SHADOW. You look at his form last year, he won the Coventry and was second in the Vintage Stakes here on soft ground which wouldn’t have suited him. I thought he ran a cracker in the Guineas, albeit it might not have been the strongest race ever. At Ascot, they finished in a bunch and he was just ahead of Bayside Boy who didn’t get the clearest of runs. I do think Bayside Boy is at his best with a bit of cut in the ground and back here, I just prefer Berkshire Shadow to Bayside Boy and Checkandchallenge even thoughhe’s the outsider of the three.

15:00 Goodwood – Rebel Territory

I like REBEL TERRITORY for Amanda Perrett. He’s had two starts at Goodwood, finishing second and winning off 82 at last year’s festival. His only defeat since then is when he stepped up to 10f at Salisbury and he won at Newmarket of 88 last October. I like the way he travels and I think he’s got a fair draw in nine. He’s got a really good chance and at that price, I’m keeping him on side.

15:35 Goodwood – Khaadem

This is a very open renewal and it’s very competitive, you could make a case for anyone in the race. Equilateral was disappointing at the Curragh and I’m going to side with his stable mate KHAADEM. He won the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket back in April and if you look back at the Stewards Cup in 2019, he absolutely bolted in off a mark of 107. He looked like a Group 1 sprinter after that. The booking of Ryan Moore is a positive and as the ground is on the faster side he’s got a solid each-way chance in a very open race.

18:00 Galway – Mount Pelier

I imagine Busselton will be top of the market or very close if not. He ran a cracker when second to El Barra at the Punchestown festival off a mark of 138, he’s only gone up 2lb from that. He’s had some solid form throughout the year, winning a Punchestown novice chase beating Indiana Jones. He was tried in Grade 1 company but wasn’t quite good enough for that. He’s had two runs on the flat to keep him ticking over. He’s bound to go close.

However, I’m going to give one more go to MOUNT PELIER for Barry Connell. Lightly raced 9y old that was good enough to contest a Grade 2 back in 2019 after bolting up here in a novice chase. He’s shown nothing since returning from injury but I just think getting back to Galway and taking 7lbs off can see him bounce back off a mark of 131. If can bounce back he could very workable and could be a wild price.

Frank Hickey’s best bets:

13:50 Goodwood – Make My Day
14:25 Goodwood – Berkshire Shadow
15:00 Goodwood – Rebel Territory
15:35 Goodwood – Khaadem
18:00 Galway – Mount Pelier
