Horse Racing Tips: Glorious Goodwood’s Thursday cheat sheet from Paddy’s pundits

WARREN POINT looked totally unsuited to a small field and 1m 4f last time but may bounce back here having scored well at Newmarket and Doncaster before that defeat.

The handicapper initially got VEE SIGHT wrong off a mark of 74 before he won at Sandown. He was eye-catching in his maidens and has gone up 8lbs to a rating of 82 but is a 90+ horse in the making. He’ll take a bit of beating!

MIGDAM is a typical late maturing type for the yard and because of his connections, he will be towards the top of the market. However, he could be one of the strongest bets of the week. He went through the line very well at Doncaster last time looking as if the rise in the handicap will be no problem whatsoever.

MIGDAM was 2-3 as a juvenile and picked up where he left off to score on handicap debut at Doncaster. He forged clear over 10f and a 6lb higher mark shouldn’t prevent another bold bid. 

VEE SIGHT has the ideal profile for the race, being unexposed at the trip and successful on his sole handicap start, from what was a very lenient opening mark, at Sandown.

ROYAL SCOTSMAN has winning track experience and improved when third behind Bradsell in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. Can go close.

ROYAL SCOTSMAN will take an awful lot of beating. He has the profile for the race and was impressive when winning here second time out and the form is working out really well. He then ran a cracker in the Coventry, I loved the way he went and the form is also working out alright.

Despite having had four races already things have not always clicked into place for CHATEAU but when it all does come together we can expect a significant raise in his profile and performance. He obviously will have most fear from Royal Scotsman but he is guaranteed to make the price for us.

ROYAL SCOTSMAN ran a cracker when third in the Coventry at Royal Ascot and can boast winning C&D form and can edge out Chateau in a fascinating Richmond Stakes.

Impossible to get away from Coventry Stakes third ROYAL SCOTSMAN. This is a bit weaker than either the July Stakes or Prix Robert Papin, and Royal Scotsman should put them to the sword.

DEAUVILLE LEGEND travels like a machine and stays well so I’ll risk him each-way. Did well to land the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket last time and I doubt he will be disgraced if acting on the track.

I’d be wanting to take on Hoo Ya Mal. New London was going to be Charlie Appleby’s Derby horse before Chester but I’m not sure there’s much juice in his price. I’m going to take a chance on JACK DARCY each way. He won on debut at Salisbury last year and the form is fair. Followed up under a penalty at Newbury where he beat Special Envoy.

MASEKELA’S price is ridiculously big for just having put up one bad performance last time when clearly not settling in the early stages, meaning he had no finishing kick. Jason Watson takes over in the saddle and we can expect an improved display from the Balding runner, whose team are already on the scoresheet at the meeting with Sandrine.

NEW LONDON put up a pattern-class performance when defying a lofty mark in an ultra-competitive handicap at Newmarket’s July meeting and is selected to improve past Derby runner-up Hoo Ya Mal, who has his first start for a new yard.

NEW LONDON is quite a confident pick in the Gordon Stakes, and the only blip on his record was when unhappy on the track at Chester in May. I believe he has more talent than Hoo Ya Mal.

It’s impossible to oppose NASHWA even if the three-year-old Classic fillies have something to prove. John and Thady Gosden’s Oaks third was brilliant in the French equivalent and really should be good enough to dispose of these.

Nashwa sets the standard but she did make hard work of it in the Prix de Diane so I’d be wanting to take her on at the prices. I don’t really rate the Oaks form that highly, either. I’d take a chance on VILLE DE GRACE each way. She won a Listed race at Yarmouth on his first start over this distance last September and followed up with a Group 3 at Newmarket.

NASHWA is the skinny one on the afternoon that looks to have been found another ideal opportunity by her handler to go back to back up at the highest level after having won the French Oaks in particularly gutsy fashion. She has come an awful long way in just five stars and she can continue even higher.

NASHWA found the Oaks trip stretching her stamina when third at Epsom but she quickly resumed winning ways dropped back to 10f in the Prix de Diane at Chantilly, the first 2 pulling clear of the rest.

Nashwa is opposable and Star of Seville flopped in this race having followed the same path a few years ago. LILAC ROAD is preferred having come from off a false pace when winning the Middleton Stakes at York in May.

TRUE STATESMAN bolted in at Chester last time and while he has to hump 9st 9lb here, he should be hard to stop under Ryan Moore.

I’m quite keen on SEDUCTIVE POWER. Richard Hannon’s won this twice in the last five years. He was fifth on debut at Newbury but the form has worked out really well. He then won nicely on his third start at Newbury and the form has been franked.

FAISAL ROAD switches across to his new trainer Kevin Philippart de Foy today having previously made a winning debut before being thrown in the deep end at the Royal meeting by his former handler. He has the profile to be much better than an official starting handicap of just 86. The new stable has already surpassed last year‘s winning tally and we need to keep a close eye on all of their runners.

FAR SHOT has a low draw and races up with the pace so can put those to good advantage ahead of True Statesman & Seductive Power. 

Richard Hannon has a great record in this race and his Kodi Bear colt SEDUCTIVE POWER looks a cracking bet in this 7f contest, having won a strong novice over 6f at Newbury.

NAVELLO might have an each-way chance for George Boughey and William Buick. Although beaten the last twice at Newmarket and Chester he’s not been totally disgraced and form at Brighton and Chester suggests this track will be fine.

It’s a very tricky race but I’d give LE BEAU GARCON another chance each way. He was very unlikely on his handicap reappearance at Musselburgh and ran on strongly into second. Went onto the good three-year-old handicap at Newmarket over six furlongs and I think the trip caught him out. Going back to five will suit.

After being put on the floor in the early stages on his return this season, LE BEAU GARCON put up a remarkable effort to finish a close second. He then came down to Newmarket with a big ticket but never got back into it with the winner making it all after another slightly sluggish start. Provided he gets it right at the gate and can sit no further back than mid division he has a perfect rail skimming draw to take advantage.

NAVELLO is seemingly still on the up and hasn’t had the rub of the green on his last couple of outings, so he’s preferred to the thriving Sir Henry Cotton, who is also progressing.

Both CATCH CUNNINGHAM and Ballet Steps would look well treated. The former ran well for a long way in the 6f nursery here last year and he could put up a bold show if able to get to the front.
