13:50 Vee Sight

Vee Sight has the ideal profile for the race, being unexposed at the trip and successful on his sole handicap start, from what was a very lenient opening mark, at Sandown. I thought Ralph Beckett’s charge would struggle to make the cut at the entry stage, but the field has cut up. Vee Sight is drawn the outside stall, but the last two times this race has had 13 runners, the winner has come from a double-digit draw.

14:25 Royal Scotsman

Impossible to get away from Coventry Stakes third Royal Scotsman, who should be odds on here. Best of those to race on the pace behind Bradsell at Royal Ascot, he’s seen that form franked by the horses he split, with Persian Force and Blackbeard really impressive winners in Group 2 company since. This is a bit weaker than either the July Stakes or Prix Robert Papin, and Royal Scotsman should put them to the sword.

15:00 New London

New London is quite a confident pick in the Gordon Stakes, and the only blip on his record was when unhappy on the track at Chester in May, for all a second to subsequent King Edward VII winner Changingoftheguard is no disgrace. He was dropped to handicap company at Newmarket last time, and proved his mark to be all wrong with a stylish win. I believe he has more talent than Hoo Ya Mal, who changed hands – and stables – after a surprise second in the Derby.

15:35 Lilac Road

Nassau favourite Nashwa is opposable, as it will be a third quick run after the Oaks and the Prix de Diane, and John Gosden’s Star of Seville flopped in this race having followed the same path a few years ago. Lilac Road is preferred having come from off a false pace when winning the Middleton Stakes at York in May. Fonteyn is also worth considering at 40/1 or bigger after beating a subsequent Listed winner at York.

16:10 Seductive Power

No trainer has a better record in Goodwood nurseries than Richard Hannon, having won the corresponding race on this card twice since 2017. His Kodi Bear colt Seductive Power looks a cracking bet in this 7f contest, having won a strong novice over 6f at Newbury. He beat a couple of subsequent winners there and will benefit from the step up in trip. Sunningdale, fourth in that race, could get closer if a hood has a positive effect.

16:45 Catch Cunningham

Kevin Ryan has two runners in the 5f handicap which he has won twice since 2010 from just a handful of runners, and he has a couple among the declarations this time. Neither comes here in form, but both Catch Cunningham and Ballet Steps would look well treated if back to the form of their respective reappearance runs. The former ran well for a long way in the 6f nursery here last year, albeit failing to stay, and he could put up a bold show if able to get to the front once more.
