ITV’s Goodwood coverage on Wednesday starts with a handicap over 1m 4f. Secret State has obvious claims but I’ll be having a few quid each-way on SURREY MIST for George Baker and Hollie Doyle. My hope has a fine draw to work from and should be suited by a strong gallop. He was seventh behind Secret State at Royal Ascot before finding 10f too short back at Ascot last time. I’ve no doubt these are the conditions that will bring out the best in my hope.

14:25 – Primo Bacio
This is the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes for fillies and mares over 7f. Ed Walker really fancied PRIMO BACIO against Prosperous Voyage last time at Newmarket and I suspect connections think she is much better than her fourth of five suggests. A fast run 7f is right up her street and from a good draw off a strong gallop I expect a bold each-way show under Richard Kingscote.
15:00 – Rocket Rodney
A Group 3 for juveniles in the Molecomb over 5f. ROCKET RODNEY is going to be hard to stop for George Scott and Danny Muscutt. The Windsor Castle runner-up was a decent winner at Sandown last time in Listed company and travels like a horse who will be well suited to this track.

15:35 – Baaeed
Now the feature of the week in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes over 1m. That’s not to say it’s a big betting heat, with BAAEED surely too good off a BHA rating of 128 after his Queen Anne romp. This is not a bad field, but Baaeed should just be too good for William Haggas and Jim Crowley. Has form at the track as he was brilliant in a Group 3 at this meeting last year. For forecast players, I will take Modern Games for Godolphin who has always been underrated.
16:10 – Peripateic
This is a handicap over 1m 2f for fillies and mares. PERIPATEIC might be capable of more after never getting going at Salisbury last time. The Cheveley Park filly is bred for this trip and has shown enough to suggest she might be better than her current mark of 86. A each-way chance for Roger Varian and David Egan.

16:45 – The Platinum Queen
The coverage ends with this conditions stakes for youngsters over 5f. Hard to oppose THE PLATINUM QUEEN who has won at Ripon and York and suffered an only defeat when down the field in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. This is not too tough for the Richard Fahey runner ridden by Oisin Orr.
