TATTERSTALL took a big step forward when filling the runner-up spot in a maiden at Beverley last time, keeping on well to be beaten just half a length (pulled clear of the rest). That form sets the standard in this line-up and it’s not out of the question that he may yet have more to offer after just two starts. Capital Offence is an interesting newcomer in opposition, but Tatterstall rates a solid option to open his account at the third attempt.

13:35 – STORMY PEARL
STORMY PEARL showed improved form to get off the mark on her nursery debut at Hamilton last week, making all to land the spoils by two and a quarter lengths in dominant fashion. The manner of that win suggests she was full value for an 8 lb rise in the weights and it’s highly unlikely that we’ve seen the best of her just yet. Some of the others have the potential to improve on their first start in a nursery, but they will need to if they are going to stop Stormy Pearl in her follow-up bid.
14:10 – MAPLE JACK
MAPLE JACK shaped well when fourth in a handicap over this course and distance last month, passing the post just a length and a quarter behind the winner and looking unlucky not to finish closer still after meeting plenty of trouble in the final furlong. He can line up from the same mark today and this also represents a drop in class. It’s surely just a matter of time before he resumes winning ways and this looks a good opportunity granted a smoother passage than last time.
14:45 – VINCE LOMBARDI
VINCE LOMBARDI stepped up on his reappearance run with a good fifth at Haydock last time, doing well to be beaten just a length and a half after conceding first run when forced to switch over a furlong out. He seems to be building up to something and there has certainly been enough in his two runs for Grant Tuer to suggest he is on a good mark. A winner at Chepstow in September when trained by Sophie Leech, Vince Lombardi is well worth another chance to double his career tally today.

15:20 – NOBLE ANTHEM
NOBLE ANTHEM showed a good attitude to make a winning handicap debut over this course and distance three weeks ago, knuckling down well to get the verdict by a neck. He is only 3 lb higher in the weights today and there should be more to come from him after just four starts, particularly now fitted with cheekpieces for the first time. He is the only runner on today’s card for Archie Watson and can make the long journey north worthwhile.
15:55 – YAASER
YAASER again shaped well over this course and distance last time, filling the runner-up spot for the third time in four starts since winning here in May. He was beaten by the narrowest possible margin on his latest outing, holding every chance in the final furlong but just not quite getting there. He can line up from an unchanged mark today and there is no reason why he shouldn’t go close again in what is a lesser grade of race.
16:25 – SUNSET GLOW
SUNSET GLOW proved a disappointment when last seen finishing down the field at Hamilton, but it could be worth giving him another chance given how well he shaped on his previous start at the same course. On that occasion he was beaten less than two lengths behind a thriving rival, producing a career best of his won on just his second start in a handicap. A repeat of that effort will put him right in the mix here for last year’s winning jockey-trainer combination.
