13:50 Ascot – Lezoo

ITV Saturday gets under way here with the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes for two-year-old fillies over 6f. LEZOO brings a high level of form to this event and provided this doesn’t come too soon after a run at Newmarket she should be hard to beat for Ralph Beckett and Frankie Dettori. The daughter of Zoostar won twice before chasing home Mawj in the Duchess of Cambridge, a Group 2 at Newmarket. She was a little unlucky there and has to be the one to beat although there are a number of lightly raced fillies in here open to much improvement.

14:05 York – Internationaldream

ITV are also at York Saturday for this handicap over 5f where the runners are ridden by jumps jockeys. This is wide open. INTERNATIONALDREAM is out of form but well handicapped and I’ll risk him each way under the excellent James Bowen. My hope is down to 76 after flopping at this track last time yet he was racing off 94 in June of last year. This is a chance to bounce back at decent odds.

14:25 Ascot – Novemba

Now the Group 3 Valiant Stakes over 1m. NOVEMBA might be hard to pass from the front for Peter Schiergen and Rene Piechulek. The raider ran a cracker when third to Real World and The Revenant at Longchamp last season and while she might prefer more juice she ran a perfectly respectable fourth behind Saffron Beach in a Group 2 at Royal Ascot. This is easier and might get an easy enough lead.

14:40 York – Aberama Gold

A handicap over 6f. ABERAMA GOLD had two good runs in big fields here in May off 88 and 87 and while rated 90 now still has each-way claims. My hope goes for Keith Dalgleish and Billy Garrity and he deserves a win after some consistent efforts. Ground and trip are ideal we just need a bit of luck.

15:00 Ascot – Ropey Guest

A valuable handicap over 7f. Watch your bets here as Jumbly runs in the 2.25 and Jumby is the likely favourite here. ROPEY GUEST is up 1lb after two fine seconds in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and Bunbury Cup at Newmarket. You have to feel for George Margarson as he keeps knocking on the door but Callum Hutchinson is back on and takes off 5lb which will help. He has each-way claims again.

15:15 York – Dubai Honour

The Group 2 York Stakes over an extended 1m2f. Easy to go with DUBAI HONOUR here over Claymore. I’m stunned at the time of writing Dubai Honour is not favourite and he was a good winner of a handicap at Newmarket last season before finishing second in a Group 1 at Ascot. He didn’t run well in Dubai in March and has been off since, but I expect a big run under Stevie Donohoe for William Haggas. It’s a good race.

15:35 Ascot – Broome

The big one of the day in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 1m4f. Westover is the one to beat no doubt. On paper BROOME, a massive outsider, has it all to do, and it’s fair to say he has a mixed Ascot record that includes a last place in the Group 1 Long Distance Cup (slowly away) and a tame fourth of five (slowly away) behind Adayar in last year’s renewal.

However, when he hasn’t fluffed the start Broome been second of ten behind Wonderful Tonight in last year’s Hardwicke and an impressive all-the-way winner in that event in June.

Aidan O’Brien’s raider does have some class form elsewhere, including a second to Yibir in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar and a fourth behind Anthony Van Dyck in the 2019 Derby when sent off at just 4-1.

Broome loves fast ground, and if he gets away on terms and is sent straight to the front he might be hard to pass under Ryan Moore. I’ll chance an upset.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
