CANDLE OF HOPE made a stylish winning debut at Newbury two weeks ago, sweeping through to challenge inside the final furlong and running on strongly. The extra furlong should suit and she has strong claims despite a 3lb penalty.
14:40 Uttoxeter – Debden Bank (Mirror Online, Melissa Jones)
DEBBEN BANK is 0-5 over hurdles but a four-time chase winner. Switched back to hurdling with respectable third at Southwell last month but has been very inconsistent since last autumn and is not an easy one to predict. Swaps cheekpieces for first-time visor.
16:50 Ascot – Al Azhar (Daily Record, Garry Owen)
AL AZHAR has form figures of 21312 since handicapping, the wins gained at Goodwood and Newbury. Slowly run three-runner race may not have been ideal when close second on latest start. Leading player.
19:55 York – The Flying Ginger (On The Nose, Expert Eye)
THE FLYING GINGER loves fast ground and made all for two wins last summer, the latest over C&D off 2lb higher. Needs to recapture that level of form and the signs were more encouraging last time at Pontefract when she didn’t see out 1m4f.
