BIT OF A QUIRKE has an excellent record at this track with six course and distance wins to his name and he left the impression he was back in form last time. That race was run at a strong pace and looks solid form for the grade, so he will remain of interest now with the visor back on and from a mark 3 lb lower than his last winning one. Termonator and Temper Trap can also go well.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
LADY HOLLYWOOD put her experience to good use when readily getting off the mark in a Lingfield novice recently (from the re-opposing Mrs U S A) and she gets the nod to concede weight all round and come out on top again. That said the latter shaped with distinct promise herself on that occasion and is expected to finish closer to the selection now.
THE GREY LASS needs forgiving a lesser effort at Yarmouth 12 days ago, but she had previously shaped up well when runner-up in a course and distance event on return prior to that and, equipped with a first-time visor, it would come as no surprise to see a better showing from a handy draw. Recent Carlisle scorer Enraged is a big threat, whilst Hot Scoop and Elzaal can also figure in an open handicap.
CANARIA PRINCE remains a maiden but there have been definite signs he’s capable of bucking that trend in recent starts and, from a handy draw, he may prove tough to dislodge from the front now dropping back to the minimum trip. Three-year-old and recent course and distance winner Primo, Mokaman and Gorgeous General are others to consider.

MIDRARR ran well on the back of a wind operation when keeping on for second over shorter at Newcastle 17 days ago and a repeat should see her firmly in the mix back up in trip. He did well to make up ground on that occasion and he looks on a fair mark. Red Verdon needs to shrug off a lesser effort in the Northumberland Plate but can get involved if doing so now in this less-competitive field.
Several of these will surely show more now tackling a nursery but it’s still hard to escape the claims of PRINCESS NAOMI, who relished the step up to seven furlongs when successful at Chelmsford last week. She looks well treated turned out under a penalty and is expected to follow up. Fomo is second choice, though Zakram could take leap forward up in trip on the back of a gelding operation.

This looks a competitive affair with the vote in favour of AUTUMN FESTIVAL. A winner over course and distance back in the spring (solid form), he arrives having run well in a deeper contest at Sandown 11 days ago and he’s expected to give another good showing from the front. Sir Maxi is on a lengthy losing run but ran well at Haydock latest so is feared, along with Stripzee and True Blue Moon.
It’s hard to get away from SHIMMERING SANDS, who was arguably unlucky not to make a winning handicap debut over the extended mile here last time, given that he encountered traffic problems at a crucial stage and finished with a flourish once in the clear. This stiffer test can be expected to help unlock further improvement and he has a big chance. Selfish Brian is also likely to take this step up in trip in his stride on the back of his recent Leicester victory and he is next on the list ahead of Make A Prophet.
