WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

13:55 – Basil Martini

Brownstown day at Fairyhouse gets underway with a 6-furlong fillies maiden for the juveniles with BASIL MARTINI and Valkyrian the most likely runners to fight out the finish. The Piltown team continue to bang in the winners, which included another nice two-year-old success with Thornbrook at Leopardstown on Thursday. This daughter of Starspangledbanner has a nice spirting pedigree and a Moyglare entry later this season is another positive to make her my first selection this Sunday.

Valkyrian has more stamina in her pedigree with Ger Lyons indicating more than once this season that his juvenile fillies are ahead in the pecking order amongst his team of youngsters – Mauiewowie his latest two-year-old winner at Naas. Elsewhere, Finsceal Go Deo has experience following plenty of runs for Jim Bolger while Coralillo on debut for the Middleham Park team could be interesting on debut for Eddie and Patrick Harty.

14:30 – Mickey The Steel

MICKEY THE STEEL has been expensive to follow and remains a maiden after 20-starts but has an excellent chance of finally getting off the mark in this 6-furlong maiden. Wesley Joyce remains in the saddle and takes off his 7Ib claim with the four-year-old having some lovely form in handicaps this season. His second to Additional in a Premier Handicap at the Curragh back in May reads well and he’s worth one more chance to score this Sunday.

Plankton looks the obvious danger for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane with this horse finishing second twice after two career starts. The son of Dandy Man sticks to this trip following his latest effort at Naas last month and should be involved again. Elsewhere, The Penny warrants a market check for the inform John McConnell with Elephant John, Hypernova and Crimson Flag others who could challenge for a place.

15:40 – Collective Power

COLLECTIVE POWER won in comfortable fashion at Down Royal last month and can progressive further to land back-to-back victories for Eddie Lynam. The son of Slade Power travelled sweetly under Mickey Sheehy and won going away to suggest he can defy a rise in the handicap and appreciate the step-up in trip. A strong pace from No Speed Limit, Dandyville and Amirat Alward should set this up nicely for the Lynam runner to score in a competitive affair.

Shabaaby was second to Collective Power at Down Royal with that horse enhancing the form by getting the better of Blind Beggar at Bellewstown last month. Elsewhere, Sister Lola bounced back into form when second at Naas recently and is another who should appreciate a strong gallop with Shane Foley booked to ride. Areille is another worth a shout for the inform Billy Lee with Ken Condon’s runner a previous course and distance winner here last month.

16:15 – Star Girls Aalmal

Emphatic Answer ran a cracker to finish just a neck behind Pearls Galore in the Lanwades Stud Stakes at HQ back in May and now drops back to 7-furlongs having finished third in Listed company to Wexford Native last month. Dylan Browne McMonagle should race forward alongside Billy Lee on Diadora, and it will be an interesting match between the two once again after that Group 2 at the Curragh.

STAR GIRLS AALMAL is the highest rated runner and receives weight from her old rivals which should see her land this feature Brownstown Stakes for Henry de Bromhead. The daughter of Elzaam ran a cracker behind Homeless Songs in the Irish 1000 Guineas and finished a fine fourth to Noble Truth when staying on wide in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot last month. This race should be set-up nicely in terms of tactics for Chris Hayes with this filly deserving to get her head in front at this level.

16:50 – Explorers Way

Jake Coen has been used to good effect by Joseph O’Brien this season and both can gain further success with EXPLORERS WAY in this 1-mile 4-furlong handicap. The lightly raced son of Australia improved for his seasonal debut at Tipperary in May by finishing second to Kirati Beach at Ballinrobe last month. The step-up in trip should be ideal with Coen making good use of his 7Ib claim by dominating from the front and seeing off all these rivals.
