14:20 York – Without A Fight
A disappointing turnout to the Group 3 contest but some horses are better in small fields and WITHOUT A FIGHT can see off his two rivals. Plenty might be keen to take him on with the re-opposing John Leeper after their battle last time over course and distance, but I’m not one of them. This son of Teofilo can confirm the form from last month as he doesn’t have to give John Leeper any weight this time, and he will love the ground conditions.
15:00 Ascot – Tone The Barone
Trainer Stuart Williams is brilliant at getting hoses to peak for big prizes. TONE THRE BARONE is a lot higher rated on the all-weather than on the turf and this could be the perfect way to exploit that handicap mark after a promising run last time at Sandown. He won in July 2020 over course and distance on similar ground off a slightly lower mark. This is an open contest and like Bond Chairman after a great run at Royal Ascot, both are major players here.
15:30 York – Sanks A Million
David Loughnane’s runner is closely matched with Rock Opera on their Chester run where there was only half-a-length between them. SANKS A MILLION may still hold the edge as his rider Richard Kingscote is one of the best in the business from the front and I can see him dictating matters and kicking at the right time, making it hard for the others to get past him.
16:05 York – Just Fine
The Queen loves a winner on tv like we all do and this race has a purse of £103k to the winner.
JUST FINE is highly regarded by connections and was fully expected to run a big race at Royal Ascot, but it never happened for him. They can all have off days so we can forgive him that run. He is progressive and I am sticking with him here to bounce back to better form.
16:40 York – Winter Power
I love horses with course form. WINTER POWER has been keeping really good comp-any of late and this is a much easier option for her as she drops down to Listed Class level. Don’t forget she won the Nunthorpe Stakes over this trip on fast ground last year. She has been a little slow to come to hand this year, but her trainer Tim Easterby is a dab hand at getting horses to peak the at the right time. This could be a confidence booster ahead of a return to defend her crown in that contest next month.
