CAPPOQUIN shaped with plenty of encouragement when last seen finishing fourth in a novice event at Lingfield in April, keeping on well under a hands-and-heels ride to pass the post around three lengths behind the winner. That was a fair performance and she is very much one to keep on the right side now making the switch to handicaps. A BHA mark of 72 looks a good starting point to life in this sphere and the longer trip today seems sure to unlock more improvement.

14:10 – Elladora
ELLADORA proved at least as good as ever when filling the runner-up spot in a handicap at Ayr on Sunday, just unlucky to bump into a revitalised rival who’d dropped a long way in the weights. She was beaten a little over a length and it’s surely just a matter of time before she resumes winning ways from a BHA mark of 55. This will be a quicker-than-ideal turnaround, but she looks sure to take plenty of beating if confirming the promise of last time.
14:45 – Monica
MONICA showed much improved form to get off the mark in a novice event over this course and distance last month, hitting the front entering the final furlong and quickly powering clear from there to win by four lengths in impressive fashion. A BHA mark of 75 is no gift on handicap debut, but there should be lots more to come from her after just three starts. She certainly has plenty about her physically and her pedigree is also an ongoing recommendation.

15:20 – Pureness
PURENESS showed ability when finishing fifth on her debut in a Newmarket maiden two weeks ago, sticking to her task well to be beaten less than three lengths. That form puts her right in the mix here and the way she shaped at Newmarket suggests she is sure to improve with the experience under her belt. Ben Curtis has an impressive 25% strike rate at Carlisle since the start of the 2017 season and Pureness appeals as potentially his best chance of a winner on Thursday’s card.
15:55 – Yeeeaah
YEEEAAH was a bit disappointing at Hamilton last time, but she had been in good form prior to that, notably finishing a close-up third on her previous appearance at Wetherby. She can race from the same mark here and her style of racing suggests the drop back to seven furlongs won’t be an issue. She is also fitted with cheekpieces for the first time today and that could give her the extra edge she needs to belatedly get off the mark.

16:30 – Persist
PERSIST shaped as if still in good heart when finishing seventh in the Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot last time, doing second best of those who raced on her side of the track. The principals on the opposite side had flown by the time Persist was able to hit full stride and she did well under the circumstances to get as close as she did. She remains with potential and is well worth another chance to prove herself better than a BHA mark of 83 in these calmer waters.
17:05 – Fergie Time
FERGIE TIME has continued to run well since making a winning reappearance at Musselburgh in May, finishing in the first three in each of his four subsequent starts. He was beaten just a length and a half when third at Newcastle last time, simply taking a bit too long to get going on his all-weather debut. His consistency is hard to fault and another big run seems assured from just 3 lb higher in the weights than last time.
