Newmarket 13.50 – Zechariah
ITV Thursday gets under way here with a Group 3 St Leger trial for three-year-olds over 1m5f. I’ll take a chance here with ZECHARIAH for the Meades and Ryan Moore. I’m not sure about the stamina for Masekela, despite the fourth in the Derby, and Walk of Stars, but my hope did really well when second in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot. He seems to be improving all the time and might just outstay some more fancied horses.

Newmarket 14.25 – Persian Force
This is the Group 2 July Stakes over 6f for juveniles. The Windsor Castle winner Little Big Bear against the Coventry runner-up PERSIAN FORCE and I’m with the latter here for Richard Hannon and Rossa Ryan. The Mehmas colt won at Doncaster and Newbury before chasing home Bradsell at Ascot. Hannon really believes Persian Force is top class and I agree.
Carlisle 14.45 – Soller Bay
ITV also show one race from Carlisle in this 6f handicap. SOLLER BAY is just 1lb higher than when winning at York last season and might have eachway chances for Tim Easterby and James Sullivan. My hope has dropped a couple of pounds after three tame runs this term but this might be the time for the filly to pounce from a reasonable draw.

Newmarket 15.00 – Ingra Tor
Now a three-year-old handicap over 6f. INGRA TOR was disappointing last time at York but has a chance to bounce back here for Tom Marquand and Mick Channon. Prior to the York flop Ingra Tor had looked progressive when scoring well at Newmarket and if he repeats that effort he has every chance even off 9lb higher in the handicap.

Newmarket 15.35 – Yibir
The big race of the day in the Group 2 Prince of Wales’s Stakes over 1m4f. Breeders’ Cup hero YIBIR is easily the best horse in the race and the ground is ideal but we know a small field tactical race is his worst nightmare. That said, I have to stick with him despite a shocking effort in Belmont last time. I’m not sure Mostahdaf is a strong stayer and Living Legend is much worse at the weights than when he beat Yibir earlier in the season. Yibir it is for Charlie Appleby and William Buick and I suspect Global Storm will act as a pacemaker.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
