13:50 Newmarket – War Horse

ITV Friday gets under way here with a handicap for 3yo over 1m2f. Decent little heat this. New London was disappointing in the Chester Vase but might completely outclass this lot. I’ll take a chance on WAR HORSE for Marco Botti and Andrea Atzeni. My hope is 2lb better off with Swilcan Bridge compared to when they were third and first respectively at Epsom last time and seems consistent at this trip. Has a good racing weight and eachway claims.

14:05 York – Geremia

ITV are also at York on Friday for this handicap over 1m4f. GEREMIA has one piece of very good York form and might have eachway claims for Jim Goldie and Paul Mulrennan. That team for the gelding into third behind Evaluation at York in May and while that was over two miles my hope can operate over this trip.

14:25 Newmarket – Maylandsea

This is the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes, a Group 2 for 2yo over 6f. Mawj and Lezoo both have talent but I’ll stick with the Queen Mary runner-up MAYLANDSEA who did well to get close to the hugely talented Dramatised. The daughter of Havana Grey looked good on debut at Nottingham and must have every chance for Michael Bell and David Egan.

14:40 York – Flotus

Now the Group 3 Summer Stakes for fillies and mares over 6f. I see no reason to oppose FLOTUS after a terrific third at Royal Ascot to Perfect Power in the Commonwealth Cup. That followed a second at Haydock to Sense of Duty who looks special and surely Flotus will take some stopping here for the Crisfords and Silvestre de Sousa.

15:00 Newmarket – Uber Cool

Another handicap here over 1m6f. Candleford is up 13lb for his victory in the Duke of Edinburgh and it’s hard to argue with that as he was a monster for William Haggas. I have to take him on here giving weight away and will risk the old boy UBER COOL for Jane Chapple-Hyam. On return he wasn’t disgraced in the Northumberland Plate behind Trueshan and he has a ninth in the 2018 Cesarewitch to his name. He might just surprise a few at big odds under David Egan in a race where Paddy is paying the first 5 home.

15:35 Newmarket – Inspiral

The feature of the day in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes for fillies and mares over 1m. I’d like to be able to say something clever here but we all know that unless she has a headache INSPIRAL will win for the Gosdens and, of course, regular partner Frankie Dettori. The outstanding juvenile was brilliant on her return in the Coronation Stakes and this should be easy pickings before she takes on the boys.
