13:50 Sandown – Equilateral

Kicking off with Sandown, we have a sprint to start with, and the horse I like in here is trained by Charlie Hills, EQUILATERAL. This son of Equiano is fast, and that’s what you need here. He won in Dubai this winter and disappointed badly in the Kings Stand at Royal Ascot. That was his first run in a while, and with the cobwebs blown away this fella gets the nod from me. The fairytale horse Raasel is the danger.

14:05 Haydock – Nathanael Greene

I saw NATHANAEL GREENE finish second at Chepstow, but then in Musselburgh he was slow away and never really got into it. This lad will be a lot cheaper now, and with the cheapest zone this could be a perfect opportunity for him.

14:25 Sandown – Lion Tower

Grant Tuer has never even had a runner at Sandown, so this would be a great result for this small team. They are ambitious and this son of Exceed and Excel won very nicely in a competitive race at York last time. LION TOWER is only three higher in this contest, and has to be of interest. The mile races at Sandown can be very tricky for hold up horses, but this fella is ridden forward which will help.

14:40 Haydock – Sea La Rosa

This could be a very good day for Cieren Fallon and for his boss William Haggas. SEA LA ROSA, a daughter of Sea The Stars has won over course and distance, the ground is not a problem for her, and she is a little bit of value against the very short-priced favourite.

15:00 Sandown – Heredia

Richard Hannon trains this daughter of Dark Angel, HEREDIA, who is unbeaten thus far. She won a very tough handicap in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot with a huge field. She’s had to dig herself out of tricky situations with great bursts of speed, and this looks a perfect opportunity for her.

15:15 Haydock – Get Shirty

David O’Meara had a good Ascot and GET SHIRTY won very nicely, beating hotpot Cleveland in the process. This looks a perfect race for him, with the ground not as important for this lad as some of the opposition.

15:35 Sandown – Alenquer (Each Way)

I love these races and over the years there has been some odd results. Some short-priced favourites have been beaten, and there have been some fantastic performances when so-called good things get turned over because Sandown is not every horse’s cup of tea. ALENQUER won a tough race for the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, no mean feat when the two of the horses he beat both came to Royal Ascot and won group ones. Don’t forget he beat subsequent derby winner Adaayar in the Classic Trial at the track.

Vadeni looked good when bolting up in the French Derby, but we don’t have much collateral form to go on. Native Trail is a horse I love – I just worry that when he got in front at the Curragh, he wandered and pulled up. That will cost him at Sandown if he does that.
