13:50 – Hophornbeam
HOPHORNBEAM showed improved form to win a handicap hurdle on her first start for Gordon Elliott at Clonmel a couple of weeks ago, scoring by four and a half lengths in a race that appealed as a decent contest for the grade. That form is up there with the best available and she may well have a bit more to offer for this yard.

14:20 – Alqamar
ALQAMAR enjoyed a productive campaign in 2021, winning on four occasions, including three times over this course and distance. He failed to make a serious impact at Ayr and Aintree in the spring, but he ran respectably and should now be firing on all cylinders on his return to this unique venue.
14:50 – Dee Star
DEE STAR snapped a long losing run when scoring over course and distance last month, justifying good support. Dee Star has a 6 lb higher mark to deal with this time, but he’s clearly in good heart and goes well at this venue. He has yet to run a bad race at Cartmel, with his form figures at the track reading 14222321.
15:20 – Casamari Abbey
CASAMARI ABBEY showed only modest form in Ireland and didn’t offer a lot on his first few starts after joining Simon West, but his latest effort when fourth in a handicap hurdle at Market Rasen was much more encouraging. That looked like a strong race for the grade and Casamari Abbey caught the eye with how well he rallied to take fourth in a contest that failed to place enough of an emphasis on stamina. He looks to be coming to the boil and, despite being out of the handicap here, is worth siding with on his return to chasing.
15:55 – Tonto’s Spirit
TONTO’S SPIRIT failed to fire here last month but that was a rare poor effort at a venue where he has such a good record. Tonto’s Spirit has won here on seven occasions and finished runner-up in this event last season from a 7 lb higher mark. He is clearly on a handy mark and trainer Dianne Sayer has her team in good order at present, so Tonto’s Spirit might be able to bounce back.

16:30 – Building Bridges
BUILDING BRIDGES sprang a surprise when scoring at Downpatrick on his penultimate start and he ran at least as well in defeat when fifth off a 7 lb higher mark at the same venue last time. Building Bridges was beaten less than four lengths last time and might have done better had he not pressed on so far out. He is clearly in good heart and can launch a bold bid.
17:00 – Light Heidi
LIGHT HEIDI shaped with promise when third at Naas in March and she built on that to score at Limerick a week later. Light Heidi impressed with how smoothly she travelled at Limerick, leading on the bridle two out and always looking like she was going to hold on. She has since joined Noel Kelly from Matthew Smith and it’s possible that this lightly raced mare has a bit more to offer.
