Fran Berry joined PK and Ruby as a special guest on this week’s From the Horse’s Mouth podcast and was kind enough to take us through EVERY race on Saturday’s card for Irish Derby day at the Curragh…
Ger Lyons has Power Under Me and Pirate Jenny in this one and I prefer the latter but I’m going to take a chance on MEASURE OF MAGIC for John Murtagh. She’s stepping back up to 6f and she’s a big price. She’ll do me!
You can make a case for any of these runners but MARBLING is the wrong price in my eyes. The Ger Lyons trained runner ran really well on her reappearance at Gowran Park earlier this month. She’s the value pick.
A low draw is crucial in this race and I feel that PRETREVILLE for Adrian McGuinness is good value. He’s coming back up to a mile and he can run a big race.
BLACKBEARD and Crispy Cat are at the top of the betting and Blackbeard is a stronger finisher out of the two. He sets the standard and I’m not convinced that we’ve seen the best of him.

I’m siding with TUESDAY over Westover. I feel the Aidan O’Brien filly could be a fast progressor and could kick on from her win in the Oaks at Epsom. Westover’s form is opposable and he was never going to beat Desert Crown in Derby at Epsom. Lionel and French Claim could also be two long-shot shouts.
Mac Swiney needs plenty of rain to have a chance in this one so I’m siding with RUMBLES OF THUNDER. He was a superb winner last time out at Gowran Park. The extra half a furlong should suit him too.

DANTES PASS impressed when winning at Limerick last year and he’s solid when fresh. He’s off a mark of 97 which is very attractive. FASTNET CROWN is also worth keeping an eye on if the ground stays good and the 1m trip should suit him.
I like the look of CRYSTAL BLACK in this one. He’s stepping back up in trip which will suit and he’s very well handicapped. I’d like the stable to be in better form but we’ll still back him.
